Hey

I've been having the standard problem with smoke from the engine bay after a drive, having changed the gaskets & cambelt as a precaution after purchase, I thought it was still some remaining oil left over...

I checked my oil today, removed the oil filler cap, and the swan neck piece came off in my hand, it seems that the seal has perished around the bottom, leaving it slightly loose.

Can anyone advise on 1) whether I can replace the swan neck seperately 2) how much this is likely to be 3) fiddly or big job to do?

Well...I MAY be wrong...BUT why bother. Just screrw the cap on directly, leaving the "swan neck" out....
Am I right to assume it doesn't matter either way...

As far as i can see, surely it's only to make pouring oil in easier.

Mines gone the same way but the seal is still intact.

Its likely you can just buy another seal (big o-ring).  

I'm puzzled that you are asking how big a job as it sounds like you have already removed it..? :-?
Anyway its a piece of p1ss to replace - just twist on and there is a tab with a hole in that clips over a bolt head. easy peasy.

I have no idea if you can screw the filler cap directly onto the camcover, but why bother for the cost of an oring.

my concern on the size of the job was whether the neck should remove, or whether it was attached to the engine cover in some way. I'm not a mechanic if its not obvious!

If its just a case of replacing the o-ring seal then happy days, I'll get one ordered.

if you look under the cable that runs near the base of the filler neck, you will see the tab which clips over one of the cam cover bolts that needs to be lifted - you can then turn the filler neck, pull it out, replace the seal and refit
