Morgan Stanley (Goldfish) are a bunch of....
« on: 01 October 2007, 13:49:07 »

....arse holes!

I have had a credit card with them for 10+ years now, I always pay the balance at the end of the month, never missed a payment....

....my card expired at the end of September and I STILL do not have a replacement and when you phone them up its very much a case of 'sorry sir, we dont give a toss'!

I am due to travel to India tomorrow on buisness and I cant book a hotel (credit card needed for a reservation) and I certainly couldn't pay for anything once I got there (unless they took debit cards).

So I may well have to cancel the trip.

It's always worth having a couple of credit cards if you travel. I had to bail out a boss of mine once on a business trip after the first hotel we checked into gazumped his £1000 credit limit. ::)

I also phone mine up before every trip now just to ensure they don't shaft me as soon as they see an "unusual" transaction. It makes credit cards much more of a pain in the neck than they used to be.

Replacement cards always come well before the previous one expires though. You sure yours hasn't been intercepted in the post?

I guess all you can do is vote with your feet. If you always pay the bill at the end of the month (as do I) they probably don't make any profit out of you so they probably don't care if you do walk, sadly...

The best of it is, I phoned them up last week to ask where it was, they said that they were having trouble getting them printed and that it would probably be late.....they then sent me a letter on Saturday with the same info!

They make sure they tell you so that there is not enough time to get another one though.....

Anyway, Capital One here I come....

But they get the money from the retailer for what you spend so it is in their interest to keep the account.

Shame- MS used to be really good for service but I've not used mine since they became Goldfish.   MBNA offerred me an interest free deal for 6 months and I've just moved onto using a Halifax one with a similar deal.

As said, it is worth having more than one in case of these episodes.

So I may well have to cancel the trip.

I know what you mean, I had a similar problem this summer when I went to the US. Checked into the hotel only to have my MS credit card declined. Bit of a surprise as the balance had just been cleared, but luckily I had two other credit cards so just used one of those. Their loss as the final bill was almost $1600 on which they'd have made a nice profit when you consider their loaded exchange rate and conversion fee. When I got back I called to find out why my card was blocked, their response was that a piece of mail was returned undelivered because they had entered the address incorrectly! Nice of them to not bother even attempting to contact me through the two other methods available to them (phone or e-mail).

The only reason I still have that card is because I have cashback on it that I plan to claim before cancelling it. It's one of their old style "platinum" cards (which is actually black -- go figure) which gives decent cashback, but they've negated much of that by recently introducing a £20 annual fee, although judging by what I've read on various forums it seems very hit or miss who actually gets charged this fee. I can't be bothered with the bullshit though so it'll be cancelled shortly.
