Heating..... What Heating???? HELP!!!
« on: 23 October 2007, 11:49:16 »

When I got in the car for the past 2 days there has been no heating............

Well i will go into more detail......

It takes about 15 mins to warm up, then if i put the fan on the heat lasts for about 2 mins then goes cold, with both of the dials on hot.

When turning the selector switch to feet, mid or windscreen it makes a SSSsssshhhhhh noise so there is vac there.

Its cold now, and my little feeties need some heat...  :)

any one got any ideas, on what i can check????

I'm not sure TBH, but could the vacuum control of the HBV have failed?

Doubt it because when vac is applied the HBV bypasses the heater matrix.

check by taking the pipe off the top of the HBV turn everything to cold and check for vac.  turn to heat and then check for no vac.

Second, with heat on, check that the hbv is allowing heat to the heater matrix - you can reach the heater pipes in the drivers footwell if you take a bit of trim off.  If you do not get heat then (particularly with the vac feed disconnected then either the matrix is blocked ot the HBV has failed.

If you are getting heat to the matrix but it is not getting to you, it could be the air dist unit (but I've got no expertise there...)

Suspect that as it starts hot then goes cold then there is a partial blockage in the martix or the HBV

I think i have the same problem or very similar!  ::)

with me this is what happens

if you look at the top of the HBV, there should be a pipe attached...
when mine is attached and i start the heating on HOT, it goes HOT with no Problems at all, but when i turn it to COLD and then back to HOT again, it will not get HOT whatsoever, not even warm !!!!!!
my only cure for this problem at present is to remove the pipe on top of the HBV all the time, and then i get hot and cold which can be switched back and forth with no problems, the only problem with this is when its on its coldest setting its not as cold as when the pipe is attached to the HBV !!!!  >:(
something to do with Air-con aswell?

are you all confused?? because i bloody well am!! what the hell is wrong with my car?
apart from me ol mate "THE BOY" does anyone else know how to cure my problem?
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

A while back i had a similar problem, and found that the small black vac pipe had broken off of the vac pipe that runs from the brake servo to the plenium. There is a plastic piece in line where it t's off to the heater control. I managed to take the pipe off and drill the plastic and glue the vac pipe back as a temp fix.

hope theis gives you some ideas, Gary :y

Sorry mate i am in no postion to help you, the best people on here are the boy or james, have look at your brake servo. there is a large plastic pipe that pushes into it, it then goes across the back of the engine bay to the plenium chamber. Just to the right of the brake servo there is a plastic piece in line of the pipe. you should see  a small 3/4mm plastic pipe go into the servo pipe here. if not then it has broken off, mainly due to hands being pushed down the back to get to various parts during maintenance. I WILL TRY TO GET SOME PICS TOMORROW TO SHOW YOU WHAT I MEAN :)

God, its just a bundle of pipes and wires around the back there...... :-[

I have taken off the vac from the top of the HBV when on hot there is no vac, when the dials are on hot there is vac from the pipe.

So what is the next step????

Had a look for the T-Piece and broken pipe, but cant see much, where abouts am i looking???

Thanks, Mark.  :y

Just had another look, This T-Piece, does it have 2 vac pipes attached if so, yes they are!!

Its the only one i can see that runs from the servo to the plenum.

Thanks, Mark.  :y

Sorry don't quite get what you are saying here.  Are you saying when dials on hot there is no vac BUT when the dials are on cold there is vac to the HBV?

If so then the vac feed is correct and your problem is NOT the vac feed to the HBV or the vac feed to the heater system, it is elsewhere like the air dist unit or the HBV itself.
