next move will be to check that the heater matrix is getting hot.

Drop the trim off from above the drivers pedals: look up to the left and find the aluminium heater pipes

Select cold on both dials: start the car up.  THese pipes should stay cold because the HBV should bypass the heater matrix.  If the pipes are heating up when you have cold selected then the HBV has failed.

Whe the engine is warming up, select hot: pipes should get very hot.  You should then get heat from the vents.  Keep running until your vents run cold and check the heater matrix pipes again:  cold pipes will indicate either a HBV failure or blocked matrix.  If they are still hot then I'd suspect one of the flaps in the air dist unit - but that's where my expertise stops I'm afraid

Finally, just checking that you do not have climate control: if you do there is a procedure for resetting the servos that you should try

Ok then I have checked the Alu pipes, they stay cold when on cold, and get very hot when on hot, then on cold go cold again. But when on hot the heat is not as hot as i would imagine it to be, (based on previous cars i have had), and when the blowers are turned up high cold just slightly warm, but on setting 1 warmer, but not HOT.  :(

There are 2 Alu Pipes, the top one is really hot, the bottom is more warm than hot.

Been checking other items too,
When on the foot setting - no air to feet but on windscreen and front blowers,
When on windscreen setting - windscreen and front blowers
When on Front only setting - front blowers only
When on Front and Feet setting - Front blowers only.

So i seem to be getting front blowers and windscreen all the time and no feet blowing.

I assume this is all down to the unit behind the radio, anyone know how to get to it????
And possibly how to fix it???

Any of this make any sense to anyone????  :)

Thanks, Mark.  :y

The good news is that I think you've confirmed that your HBV is o.k. and it is an air distribution problem.  The unit is vac controlled - that's why you get the hissing from the dials.  Unfortunately, that's where my expertise stops!  I guess I'd check all the vac connections at the dials before I went digging for the air dist unit

good luck

Can you both check the hose connections to the HBV please?

On one side of the HBV there are two hoses, the top one should connect to the heater at the bulkhead.

Right then i have got the dials of and had a look, there seems to be a vac pipe missing, i have included some pics....

Here is the back of the vac pipe connector:
Yellow is connected to: IN
Brown: DEF
Green: FUSS
Blue: UML
The one with no pipe is: RES

Now when i turn the dial to feet the hole with no pipe is sucking. So obviously something is missing.

Anyone have any pics or a haynes manual to hand, maybe even know what is missing or not.

Thanks, mark.. :y

Had a look, the two hoses from the HBV one goes to the top pipe in the bulkhead, the other diseapears down behind the engine somewhere.

Yes and No.
The top connection on the HBV must go to the heater.

Yes and No.
The top connection on the HBV must go to the heater.

Just double checked, the top one on the HBV goes to the top pipe in the bulkhead, this connects to the one on the inside (Top alu pipe) that gets really hot. The bottom one on the HBV is the one that curls round and disaperars down the rear of the engine.

Thanks Again.  :y

Ok, so its not that......if reversed you get no heat.
