Had the check oil flash up on the display a few times over the past 2 weeks, thought nothing of it as whenever I checked the oil, it was always 1/2 to 2/3 full... Starting the engine it took about a second for the oil light to go out, nothing out of the ordinary...
It would flash up check oil during sustained 70mph runs on the motorway/dual carriageways, or sometimes when parking up and stopping the engine. But reading a few threads on here, it sounded to me like the sensor has a habit of being a bit dicky (like the coolant level one).
Anyways checked the oil today (on a flat surface) and it was just touching the bottom of the dipstick :| took a whole litre of oil JUST to get it to the max marker again. Bugger! And thinking about it, I was previously checking the oil on a slight slant on the driveway. Last time I checked it was Llandudno a few nights back, the car was leaning drivers-side lower than passenger, and it showed half full on the dipstick again.
But last night I gave it a bit of welly (private test track) and when I pulled over, I did notice some very faint smokey/steamy residue infront of the passenger headlight, but couldnt see any coolant loss or anything else... Also to note, I checked the coolant today and that was fine.
So question is... Possible damage to engine?? The oil pressure light now goes out the instant it cranks over. Also, it did have the rocker gaskets replaced just before I got it, so wondering with silly rpm to make silly mph, the pressure of the oil would be quite high, so could of leaked through or

Going to Bristol tomorrow (160miles) so need to get assurance it will be fine
