B*%*%~#@'s
« on: 16 November 2007, 14:50:00 »

Some kind considerate idiot has dinked the front of the car today whilst it was parked.:( Damage looks fairly superficial initially but I need some advice please, as I am almost useless at bodywork stuff.

Car is the mini facelift Elite pictured left :(

The damage is all to the front bumper area:

1. easy - 3 small dents that will not be hard to dress out prior to respray the bumper

2. rubber insert (between headlamp washers/bumper) split - requires replacing

However ... there is always one of these ...... :(

What looks to me like a bracket that the insert attaches to, right at the rearmost end is also broken, this bracket seems to go forward and round under the headlight. At the moment the bumper/insert is "bodge-taped" up as without this bit of bracket there is nothing to attached the insert to.. and the bumper attaches to the insert

Is this bracket easily replaceable ? does the whole bumper have to come off to get to it ( looks like it to me ...)? how easy is bumper removal/replacement ? are there any other bits I need that I don't know about ?? are the bumpers/inserts the same on facelift/minifacelifts ?

I'll be putting a "wanted" up and e-mailing those folks breaking cars, but would appreciate any comments before I do !!

Regards ... a very p*ss*d off  entwood

The brackets are under a tenner new from Vaux and the bumper easy enough to remove to fit (only a few bolts and clips).

But, bad luck

If there is one thing that makes me  >:( it's running away after damaging someones car.
My wifes Freelander had the door panel dinged after someone opened a door onto it ,although opened is not the right word as the dent was 1/2 inch deep. I touched a rear door on a Hi ace with my van's mirror and spent 20 mins tracking down the owner to admit to it. He looked at the damage we agreed on 100 euro cash after he proved he was the registered owner .He then told me I was a mug for tracking him down as he would have driven off quickly   :(
There is no salt laid down on the roads over here in SW Ireland so little or no rust on vehicles but nearly EVERY one is bashed ,dinged and scraped by parking incidents.
I know how frustrated and angry you feel.
