Britains worst drivers.
« on: 03 October 2007, 16:21:32 »

This is a generalisation, but having just returned from an 800mile round trip to Scotland this week, I saw some truly shocking drivers on the road.

So, I thought it would be interesting to have an informal 'poll' of who you each think are the worst 3. Here are mine:

1. BMW drivers for aggresiveness, speeding and tailgating
2. Audi drivers for the same
3. 4x4 drivers (mainly Range Rover) for driving like absolute nutters!

I think everyone should take a new test every 3 years, the same as the RoSPA advanced drivers have to.

Completely concur on the BMW thing.   They are good cars but seem to attract some real t@ssers to drive them.   At the junction where I hit the M4, on several occassions I've come across a beamer parked pointing the wrong way on the slip road having lost it on the roundabout.

You missed off their close relations, the white van drivers though..

I vote
1. BMW
2. White van
3. 4x4 (mainly disco's and mitsubishis/toyotas - crickey those things are big - around here)

That's got to be about right. I'd also add van drivers to that. I'm very cautious of drivers of tatty / white vans. The vehicle is either not theirs or they don't give a monkeys about its' condition so why would they drive it courteously? You like your car more then that so you'll give way, won't you?

I really don't understand the 4x4 / pickup truck thing. Buy a big, thirsty, agricultural chunk of iron with the aerodynamics of a sub post office and then hurl it up the motorway at 90+, bullying everyone else out of the way. Presumably all the wind and tyre noise, not to mention the fuel consumption, makes them bad tempered. Should have bought an Omega, mate!

Oh, and regarding Audi drivers I have the feeling they are wannabe BMW drivers who have got the hump because their managers wouldn't sign off a BMW.

 ;D

The diesel ones don't half smoke, too. It's fun to let them pull away from you until you can see by the fumes that they are really trying, then kick down and scream past ;D

Omega is a great Q car.... not particularly noticable, blends in but in most forms has the potential to leave the 'top of the range  ;D ;) NOT' cars standing.

Bit like years ago when I had an old V8 SD1 Vitesse, really did annoy the posh execs when a rusty old Rover out dragged them every time.

A current dislike is the Audi Q7, a massive tin blob. Drivers of these seem to think they have to drive in a show off fashion all the time. A street I know is used by some cars as a shortcut, and you see/hear these things flying down, totally oblivious to the fact that there are kids playing about, kids with very little car sense. An accident waiting to happen. And the other day, I was about 150yds from the lights, they were on green, but you could guess they would have turned to red by the time I got there. This Q7 behind me, accelerated up to well into the 40's, flew past and tried to beat the lights which had now turned to red. So a total waste of petrol, and just generally being an idiot.

 Every one who passes a uk driving test , should be told that  bmw drivers have their own lane on the motorway and duel carridgeways, and must be infront of YOU at any cost.I also drive a white van and do care about it's condition and keep it as clean as my v6, but do know what you mean though. it is often the butt of many comments at my depot about it BEING TOO CLEAN.

No offence taken by the way. :) :) :)

Not sure but I think this made it into the new version of the highway code ;D ;D

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BMW Drivers
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Note there are "BMW Drivers" who don't drive BMW's (a lot of them seem to drive Audi's strangely enough) but they still qualify under the new "BMW Drivers" guidelines.

Only you can tell if you are a BMW Driver but obvious traits are:-

a) The assumption that you have a God given right to what ever part of the road you are on and nobody else has.

b) The assumption that as you are of higher standing to everyone around you, everybody else should get out of your way.

c) The belief that, no matter what specification car you are in it is faster, better handling and brakes better than any other car on the road.

d) You have super human reactions (and BMW brakes) so can stop if anything should happen, at any speed, even if you are two foot from the rear of the car in front.

e) Foglamps give you unquestionable sole right to the right hand lane.

f) BMW's are exempt from any hands free mobile phone ruling.

g) BMW ownership allows use of any parking space be it Disabled or Parent & Child no matter what the status of the car driver.

h) Driving unreasonably slowly and weaving from lane to lane, while on the phone, is perfectly acceptable and should be followed by bouts of driving faster than anything else on the road.

i) BMW drivers are omnipotent and, as such any fault is always the other drivers.

j) (Ref i above)Any hooting of a BMW is totally unjustified and should be rebuffed with what ever hand gestures and verbal abuse can be deployed in the available time.

k) (In the event of J above) It is entirely acceptable to pursue other road users who have "wrongly" hooted a BMW in order to extend the available time to continue to unleash what ever abuse might be appropriate.

l) BMW's are exempt from any law of physics which necessitates spacial awareness.
