Possible to disable aircon?
« on: 01 December 2007, 17:04:38 »

Hi,

I have a facelift 2001/X Omega 2.5 v6 auto saloon.

The air conditioning is stuck on ice cold on the left side - I can't adjust it at all so have closed the vents on the left side and just use the right side which is still fully functional and adjustable as it should be.  I got fed up with having the left side of the windscreen misted up whilst still clearing perfectly on the right, so I took it to my local Vauxhall dealership to be repaired.

They wanted a staggering £175 just to 'look at it' and possibly another £700 ti repair it if it needed a new blower! (it still blows ok but just freezing cold air! all the time!).

I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to disable the air con and have it just blow hot a air in a conventional non-aircon way (as if it didn't have aircon at all).

Is this possible? I took the fuse out to stop the aircon working but of course that disabled all the controls too!

Any help would be very appreciated.

Many thanks,
Mike

Try resetting the servos, but failing that, its common for the servo arms to come off.  A few on here have fixed similar issues :)

I found the little arms had fallen off the servos on mine. A bit fiddly to fix.
Sometime later my compressor packed up so I just cut the belt. Who needs aircon when you have a sunroof?

Hi and thanks for the replies.

Can you please tell me where these arms are? I seem to recall a suggestion that they are in the footwell somewhere?

many thanks,
Mike

V Quick! For future reference, I believe if you press the 'eco' button on the dash, it disables the air con compressor which supplies the really cold air to the system, leaving simply the tradional hot/cold mix which hopefully wouldn't be as cold!  ;D
