.....from SWMBOs 2.5cdx MOT. I havent heard on anything similar ( certinly not on facelift)

corrosion starting on offside front of chassis section and on both rear inner sills on underside. It makes no suggestions or warnings about danger so i am hopings its simply something a thorough mot`er has spotted.

Now panic has set in, how long before rust that "has started" becomes a terminal failure....

Odd that i have two pre facelifts and they are older and lots more mile than this one.

MOT tester has gone for the day and i am at work so really cant get to check this out.....I am hoping that the fluffyness of the advisory may mean we have a very very over cautions mot`er.

Oh and nothing else to worry about  :-/

Any thoughts people?

Hi markie , is there any evidence of accident damage/repair as it may not have been re undersealed properly after the repairs had been done.Certainly not seen any rust on any cars i have looked at and there is no evidence of it  on my 97 pre facelift either... Lets hope the tester is being over cautious.

hpi clear and straight as they come panel wise, no rust on the body at all either.... :-/

 It Could have had a repair without the insurance co being informed, therefore un recorded and remaining hpi clear. if youi can get it back to him and ask to be shown the rust and have a good look to see if there is any signs of repair.

also, get a couple more opinions from other garages you trust

ive not been able to check it as im at work and its dark oclock when i leave and return. Needs to be the weekend....

Seen quite a few with corrosion on the chassis rails near the bell-housing, just where the rails decend from the engine bay and go horizontal. Seems to be worse on mini face-lift onwards so might be to do with the scuttle drains which exit through the chassis rails :-? ...early cars had rubber drain pipes which exited through the inner wing.
Metal is quite thick here so clean off any loose rust and spray some waxoyl inside the rails but dont block any of the drain holes.

Hopefully just a clean an protect job is needed, then it won't get to bad to fail...

My 94 was starting to show the same thing on the rails where they rise towards the engine.

I have never heard about problems with sills though.
