Problem Starting

Hello All,

After a 60 mile drive home last night, I came back out to the car and she wouldnt start - turned over fine plenty of juice in the battery but didnt fire. After about 20 minutes she did fire - I took her for a good drive no issues with fuel as she took off like a rocket. Parked up, 30 mins later, same problem didnt start - by this time was 11pm and though AA van outside the house wasnt fair. Prepared to call them  out this morning, I went out to the car and on the first turn of the key... she started?????

Could it have been all the wet damp weather over the weekend?

If anyone has any ideas it would be great.

You need to get the fault codes read.....it is classic crank sensor symptoms.

Error codes may show crank position sensor error, do you need to hold the throttle open to start? That was how my 2.5 was, ok after sensor change.

Hi there,

It didnt seem to make much difference and today it keeps starting perfectly - however, on about six occassions since buying the car 4000 miles ago the emmissions sensor has come on when cruising at low speeds, holds onto second gear (its an auto) then the light comes on and the engine goes into limp/safe mode, now everytime by stopping and restarting the light goes off. Is this all to do with the sensor?

Other issues could be related to a poor RPM signal (derived from crank sensor). The starting symptoms are exactly as mine were when my crans sensor went recently (2002 car).

I have a feeling mine was about 47 quid on trade club.

Look at the HOWTO article on here regarding routing the cable differently when you change it, as it's the fact that the cable is routed close to the oil pipes and exhaust that kills them.

Not a difficult job to replace.
