bought my Osmega of off EBay a while back http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=150181442311 well since i have had it so many things have gone wrong on it, the latest thing is the bloody exhaust, the heat shield was rattling about as it was no longer welded to the exhaust so i removed it.
then i investigated the annoying ticking sound i could hear (was told on here it could be the exhaust) found that it is blowing from the back box to middle section
it is also blowing from down pipe to exhaust manifold and there is a bolt missing as the thread has been striped,
its also blowing from the engine / head to exhaust manifold and the bolts that hold that on are all rounded off.
so now i have bitten the bullett and bought a complette system of the internet for £150.00 (excluding the manifold) and a mechanic friend is going to fit it for mr for £30.00
i should have stuck to MK2 Ford Cortinas i could do all the work on them myself and at half the cost

Hardly screwed over mate... an exhaust is a wear and tear item that can fail on any used car.

My exhaust failed 2 months after I bought my car - but I certainly don't think I was screwed over

i know what your saying but when you add it to the ever growing list of faults, crank sensor, cam sensor passenger side wing mirror fell off (was super glued on!!) paper clips for fuses, heating stuck on screen, hazzard lights switch comes on every time you go over a bump, rear seat belt pulled out but would not retract (due to being not connected and was able to be pulled right through, not bad considering he had a child seat attached to it) horn did not work,

there are / were other faults but hey whos keeping count  :-?

In fairness, the car has done over 200,000 miles, it's 10 years old and you paid £255 for it.

In his ad' the seller stated:

"..the engine cuts out every now and again - it can go days without and then suddenly have a day where it may cut out a couple of times, however it does restart on the first turn of the ignition without any problems - we have been advised that it is most likely the cam sensor that needs replacing which would cost £40 from a vauxhall dealer, but i'm no mechanic therefor would be best to get this double checked."

Screwed over? I wouldn't say that. Should you have gone and had a look at it before you bought it? Probably. At the end of the day, as Paulus says, it's all fixable. And remember, Caveat Emptor.

I bought a 1995 2.5 v6 estate £205...tax and MOT, ran it for 6 months with no problems then sold it with no MOT for £160 after selling the alloys for £50 and putting steelies on it I got for free...but at that price you certainly take your chances!!

Also a good choice of motor. Thing is I ran classic cars for a few years because moderns are so boring but I like my omega so much I am considering giving them up. This one goes quite well as it has an 1800 mondeo engine in it.

My Elite Estate cost me £500 and mine didn't have much of an exhaust on it at all! I know it's annoying 'cos mine's had quite a few silly problems but I do enjoy driving it so it's worth it. Stick with it, you know it makes sense

I paid a lot more than that for my current 2000 facelift elite (add a few thousand) but it did only have 70k on the clock. Luckily the dealer I got it from provided a reasonable warranty as in the first 2 months I've had to spend >£1000 on it ! So far managed to get all but £200 back . The summary of woes - both front wishbones replaced, new dis pack and leads, new oil cooler, buckled rear alloy replaced. Lets hope thats the end of my troubles ! AT least I managed to get the money back - but then I did pay the going price for the car to get this kind of service.

this was my baby, 2.9 V6 cologne engine fitted onto a type 9 gear box, all body work and mechanics done by myself (before i became disabled) which is why i am finding it very frustrating being unable to do any of the work on my cars myself.

Shame about the body damage but at the end of the day, as mentioned, most problems with omegas are known on this forum, and others are wear and tear items that are the same for everyone on the road. Anybody that tells you they can run a car for free is lying. They are an expensive necessity! I'd be more upset if someone had gone and put a dent in my brand new £40,000 Mercedes (not that I could even look at buying £40,000 mercedes!   )

Aye, stick with it for now, that exhaust seems good value and fingers crossed, you will have a solid reliable motor at the end of it! Oh, and even if it's a banger, it's still better than public transport! Chin up mate
