Climate Control Problem
« on: 13 December 2007, 14:38:18 »

Hi all, first post here.
I have a late 2002 Omega 2.2 CD with LPG for which i paid £5K last year at a dealers.
Since then, its had the head gasket replaced twice, both under warranty and i just put 4 new tyres on it.
I have that annoying tick on start-up and revving, which i suspect is either exhaust manifold cracked or studs sheared, plus the internal heater is cr@p, it never seems to get hot enough and doesn't clear the windscreen of condensation.
Just mooched around here and cleared the gullies beneath pollen filter and drivers side, altho they weren't blocked, any other ideas??

I may be being dim, but wouldn't the exhaust manifold connection have been reassembled (and inspected?) during the head gasket repair?   4 pots can be quite clattery from the top end though..

I don't know, i presume so, it wasnt a vauxhall main dealer that did it, it was a nationwide auto centre, which may have been a mistake...

Does sound like exhaust manifold.......and if they've had the head off twice, more than likely snapped studs. To check remove heat shield and try tightening the manifold bolts.....carefully tho...if they dont wont to turn much....assume ok.....its the one/s that turn and turn that are the snapped one/s. Cylinder 1 is usual favourite for some reason.

For the heater prob....try the tissue test.......small piece of tissue and place against the sampling fan slots (small slots in the centre console at the top, just underneath display). If it stays there sampling fan is working, if it drops down it isnt working. Might be the prob.....as the sensor isnt reading cabin temp.....its just reading temp of the electronics in the climate panel around it.

Also dunno of you have aircon on ECO (turned off) but putting it on will help clear condensation quickly

I had a look under the bonnet this afternoon, i don't appear to have a heatshield around my exhaust manifold, the top bolt closest to the front of the engine does turn and turn, i'm guessing that one is buggered, theres one below it which has a nut on it that appears to be not done up fully, yet it doesn't move, i guess thats trashed too.
The air con needs re-gassing, i noticed that towards the end of the warm weather, strangely enough just after i got it back from Nationwide Autocentre after the head gasket replacement, it also seems to have an oil leak now from the back end of the engine somewhere that it never had before they got their hands on it.
I'll try the tissue test tomorrow, thanks for that...

Looks like it is the manifold bolts then........

Also looks like the cowboys have lost/couldnt be bothered with the heat shield........it should have one........not sure on long term implications of not having one  :-/

Im sure experts will advise  :y

Let us know how you get on with the tissue test  :y

So it was worth going out to the car in P.J's and slippers. I never noticed those vents there before. It's not working, how do i go about sorting that out???
