Hello people....
New Omgea owner here and seeking some advice - cant find the answer in the FAQ.

Problem is i just bought a 2001 2.2CDX Automatic Trasmission Omega from a dealer - 3 weeks ago.
During the test drive there was a light on the dash of a car with a wrench - we were assured this was the 'service light' and would be gone when they service the car after purchase.

Loved the car so bought it and true enough the light was gone - for a day or 2..... At first it flashed upon engine starting and then it stayed on.
Our user manual said at this point it needed service as i think it was an electric fauly ??

So returned it to dealer who said it was an airflow issue with fuel getting to engine and they 'flushed' valves or something....

Well last night the light returned and i want to get some info on this problem before i call the dealer and fight the good fight again....

Anyone help???

Basically im not the most technical sort in the world so would like to know.....

What is that light REALLY for
What causes the problem
How it can be fixed - is it a big job
Cost
And is it a serious problem.....


Oh and HI - love the forum and used your passion for the cars in our decision to mnake the purchase

Sounds like the supplying dealer is a good bullsh1tter! The engine symbol with a spanner though it (Americans use wrenches ) is the Engine Managment Light and it's telling you there's a fault somewhere. You need the car plugging into a code reader to find out what the fault is.

Apart from the light coming on, what if any are the symptoms?...  poor idling, high revving, won't start etc....

I agree there is no such thing as a service light and the only sure way of diagnosing the fault is with a code reader.
Tell us the symptoms (if any) and where you are in the country as someone nearby might have a code reader.

Starts fine, only symptons we can find are that sometimes when you start there is a lack of power - so a restart gives it the zip back.

Also i read that this light can increase fuel consumption???

Im in northern ireland....taking it back to dealer on tuesday - they should do that test (hopefully)

Does the light go out after a restart?   You say lack of power!  Auto's drop into limp mode with a trans' problem and become sluggish....

The light is now on constant...
It can be sluggish - but with a restart goes back to normal - yet light stays on.

You defintely need your fault codes reading -preferably by someone with tech2 (vaux own handheld reader)
Vxall will charge about £60 for this maybe more.
A good garage should? have he capability to at least read the fault codes and advise to possible problems.

My own 2.2 had similar problems to yours - established by tech 2 to be either egr or lamba sensor. Turned out to be both cost about £100+ to replace them

If you find someone with tech2 whilst they read your fault codes get them to check and if necessary upgrade your emu and autobox program. Takes about half an hour but then Vxall(bless them) have a minimum charge(half hour) to use the tech2 and reading the error codes takes about 30secs

Print it out and take it to the dealer... definitely no 'service light'. And as said the engine fault codes need to be read.

Sounds to me like the cam sensor is starting to fail.
