It's not difficult, just fiddly getting off the aircon climate control panel. I only know about the pre-facelift model. Once you have the aircon panel out you just need to unscrew the rear casing. To remove the aircon panel:-

1. Remove the inner ash tray part of the ash tray. This will expose a screw at the rear. Remove this screw. The entire ash tray until can now be pulled out. This will expose another two screws, one each side (but don't undo these yet).

2. Remove the radio unit and remove the radio chassis.

3. Prise off the buttons on the aircon panel – only the ones in a horizontal row, i.e. the heated seats etc. (You only need to do this step if you are completely removing the panel.)

4. Remove the two screws from exposed by step 1 above.

5. The tricky bit now... Looking through the radio aperture you should see a horizontal aluminium bar. You need to pull this bar down. It is spring loaded and releases two metal pins that hold the top of the aircon panel secure. Tip – I have had to take my panel out quite a lot so I tied some string to it. Now I just have to stick a screw driver into the loop of string and pull that – much easier.

6. Pull the panel free. The wiring looms that attach to the buttons you removed earlier are freed by sliding downwards.

7. There is a yellow connector which has a lever you must pull. You must also unclip the satnav connection. The panel will then be free and you can remove the black plastic cover over the sampling fan.

8. Because you disconnect the aircon unit, you must reset the system when you put it all back by pressing and holding the Auto/Off buttons until you hear the servos begin to move.

I’ve done this quite a few times now and it takes me around 5-6 minutes, but for the first time expect it to take about 20 depending how quickly you manage to pull down the ali bar to release the top of the unit.

Also, please beware, I’ve had a couple of whiskies now – but I don’t think I forgot anything  ;D

Good how-to!

There's one that shows pics of the climate panel removal here:
http://www.arrakis.es/~meridiansi/climatebulbs.pdf
This how-to is for changing bulbs but has pics that may help. It took ages to load on my PC BTW.

Here is the maintenance guide detailing how to get the cliamte panel out...

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1162120610

Once remvoed, pop the front assmbly containg the buttons off (a few plastic tags to press).

Then remove the PCB, there are again some plastic retaining tabs to press in.

Its not the fan that fails, its the drive electronics.....the fan is a simpel affair and requires the cliamte panel to switch the coils on the fan in order to get it to rotate. Its the electronics that fail....

I remove the old fan and fit a 25mm x 10mm 12V fan in its place.....

I havent seen a guide on here  :-/

But my sampling fan doesnt work either so ive spent some time looking into how to remove climate panel.......

And its basically......

Remove ashtray
Remove stereo and cage
Remove buttons down both sides of the stereo
Then you have a fighting chance of getting the climate panel out........

When i get round to doing mine..........i'll do a how to.......but the weather will have to warm up a lot more before that happens  ::)

I have just had this trauma for the last couple of weeks! Only got it working last week - removed the panel without popping any switches and wrestled it upside down to get the panel out. Once out, I removed the sampling fan and replaced it with one from a spare I acquired (thanks V6_MAT). The soldering is easy as the holes in the board are quite big, and the pins are small on the fan connection. Once this was all done - hey presto, climate that actually knows what the hell is going on!! Makes so much difference on those cold mornings. Hope you get it sorted OK. :y

Just stumbled across this, and it might be an answer to my lazy climate

That is, if someone can tell me the symptoms of a dead sampling fan/system?

Have read information provided with much interest as have suspected that my "sampler fan "also does not work. When you have stripped dash panel out how do you actually test if the fan does work as all electrical connecters are removed? Also assuming that it is knackered what parts do you replace and where do you get them from ?? are they GM parts or do you go to Maplins or similar.

I found that the symptoms were the climate had a mind of its own and would be either really hot, or really cold! It would not maintain the temperature as it should. To confirm this, I did the following:

Take all the centre console out, and remove the complete climate control unit. Once out, strip it down to just the circuit board and re-plug it back in. Turn the ignition on and the fan should start to spin, if not give it a spin yourself in case it is stuck. If there is still no life from it, then it is bu66ered! Either solder a new one on, or do some crazy fan mods like some ppl on here! (i just soldered another on)

Hope you have some joy getting it fixed.

Platty..did you get a new fan or did you get one from a breakers?
My climate is either hot or cold but very difficult to gauge temp so for ever turning up then down as too hot,so sound like the problem we have was similar.
