The "not over 4000 rpm" is known as "limp mode" and is usually associated with an EML light on the dash, this leaves a code in the ECU which needs reading

the eml registers a code that can be read using Tech 2 kit, and on some by the "paperclip" method ... don't know if yours is doable ... if it is .. instructions and a video here ..

if it isn't then its expensive Vx visit .. or cheaper to one of the 2 on the forum ... :) but from Ireland its a long way !!  :(

realy i would suspect on how far it is to the closest VX and if you think the car can make it there, failing that can you get somebody to tow you?

Sounds like the typical cam sensor failure on a 2.2.

what I think is that he is blindly guessing and almost certainly wrong.

Sounds like he has little clue when it comes to anything electronic so its either reboot (battery) or replace the ECU.

See what people on here come up with first. :y

sorry I wasn't clear.

His suggestion is to disconnect battery (you can try that - its free after all) or replace the ECU (what he is calling the brain) - don't do that as its almost certainly not the problem.

From the other posters it is likely the cam sensor, but wait for others who have been there before/know the codes to confirm first (I haven't)
