My idle problem - returning fault code
« on: 23 December 2007, 16:10:47 »

I'm not sure if this gives any indication of what my idle problem could be.

Today I cleared out the codes with Kevin's cheapo Tech2. Ran the engine on PETROL only, and checked again.

Fault code 57 (Idle air control voltage low) keeps reappearing. I tried a few times. Sometimes it only appears on the laptop with the engine running. I have already changed the ICV with no joy.

Any ideas please? :)

I've checked v thoroughly for air leaks etc - there are none.

Multirams would effect performance, but I'm not sure about idle?

...or the wiring to it.  Possibly an intermittent short to another wire?

Given that I've changed the ICV for a known good from another car, I guess wiring is likely to be suspect also.

Anyone know what pins on the ECU I should continuity test to?

Check Haynes - the wiring diag will cover your engine loom

Ultimately, I think I may need to speak nicely to someone with a real Tech2 and go for a live data run ;)

Really fed up now. This morning it was almost perfect on changeover to gas - and then with no warning at all it cut out on me when dipping the clutch, approaching a roundabout.

It's one of those annoying faults - I wish I could get to the bottom of it
