Can't get the boot to shut, any ideas?

I've just bought myself an 1994 Omega saloon and I've just discovered a problem with the boot. It won't stay shut.

After having a closer look at it, I suspect its the boot catch thats faulty. You can close the boot, but once you go over a bump in the road, or shut one of the doors, it opens itself again. Another big concern is that when parked up, you can quite easily pull the boot open without a key when its locked, or even using the latch. Luckily the alarm will sound, but its still not all that convienient.

Is this a common problem? and if so, have I diagnosed the problem correctly? I'd be greatfull if someone else could confirm or correct my diagnosis and let me know where I can pick up a new boot catch.

Sounds like the catch mate, be a main dealer part thou.... >:(

Had a very simular thing with my daughters Corsa, i stripped the lock down and found that the, what i call the hook part was not fully engaging as it was slightly siezed, i gave it a full clean and spray, it works fine now. Worth a try before you go buying a new lock etc.

Don't forget the rubber twisty things on either side of the inside of the boot, if they are set too high the catch won't catch if you get my drift.

Then do as Miggy suggests.

not a problem i've seen before, so maybe a catch from scrappy is best option?

I had a problem with my door locks when the weather got cold and icy.
Cured by a quack squirt of Wd40 then every now and again greasing the moving parts

Remember my green Elite? Towards the end of it's days, the boot lid was tied down to the towing eye  ;D

Could always try removing the boot lock and cleaning it all out and a good oil when done.... Make sure you re fit it it the same posistion else the boot will never shut..

Cheers guys, a lot of useful ideas.

I tried giving it a good squirt last night with WD40, left it for a couple hours, had a little play, problem solved.

Looks like the boot catch was just slightly seized.
