DBW cruise 'problem'
« on: 31 December 2007, 18:46:31 »

2002 2.6

Cruise fully works with the following exception:
Using the resume function, any more than the quickest tap, and it just sets cruise at the current speed.

Dealer alledgedly changed stalk and engine ecu.

Any ideas?

cant see how that could be anything other than the ecu or programming...
Are there various levels of software for cruise control?

Only software is the main engine ecu software.  I had made a dangerous assumption that dealer would have put latest on.  I was unable to check, as I didn't have the laptop with me

If I didn't know that the dealer had changed the stalk  :-X the stalk would be where I checked first. Does each press of each button open/close contacts within it?

Only checked with tech2, and can see switches working as expected from engine ecu

My gut reaction is a software issue or an ecu failure, though it has alledgedly be changed...

A dealers word is reliable as a plumers estimate

Initial reaction was that the stalk is knackered and 2 buttons are reacting at once, but that's been covered.

If the Tech 2 can see the buttons OK, and the car runs OK without cruise I think the hardware checks out OK. After all, the cruise control is just software plus a couple of buttons on a DBW engine.

I'd say it's an ECU configuration issue or a "glitch". Reflashing the firmware, even if it's the same, might help.

I guess it could be giving up during the "resume" due to insufficient response from opening the throttle or due to a problem with the DBW throttle but I'd expect codes to be stored and problems driving manually as well!

An odd one....

Cruise is built into the engine ECU on a DBW car, so it operates the throttle through the DBW actuator in exactly the same way as manual driving with the accelerator does. I assume the vehicle speed is fed back into the engine ECU from the ABS system. Looks like a CAN bus linking it, the engine ECU and auto gearbox, if present, from the wiring diagrams.

It's really hard to see a failure that would give these strange symptoms.  :-/

Its Mike's 2.6, only just got around to posting about it  :-[

My initial thought was some fault with the electronics and any debounce circuitry around the ecu that deals with resume button, but Mike says the dealer has replaced ECU.
