Hmmm.....interesting one.

I would certainly check and update the software (there was an update for the 3.2 which was cruise related) as a starter.

Yes, I meant to last time I saw the guy. Took the tech2 and the laptop. Shame I had rebuilt laptop that week, and not reinstalled TIS  :-[

Haver an idea about this but before i post and make a pratt of meself how does the cruise get its signal from the engine is it taken from the coil pack or speedo or something else?
Its Mike's 2.6, only just got around to posting about it  :-[

My initial thought was some fault with the electronics and any debounce circuitry around the ecu that deals with resume button, but Mike says the dealer has replaced ECU.

Any debouncing will almost certainly be done in firmware. It's so trivial to detect a button press and then go into a state where you ignore further button presses for a few milliseconds. I would be surprised if the cruise button inputs did any more than go straight into an input on the microcontroller - with some protection circuitry in between.

If the buttons can be observed to operate correctly with Tech 2 I think they're in the clear. The one thing I was thinking is that the "set / accelerate" button is closing at the same time due to a failed stalk and the ECU is seeing that button before the "resume" button.

I also wonder if the "resume" functionality can be turned off for some markets - maybe someone objects to cars which have a button that can cause them to accelerate off on their own?

Then again, why does it work at all after a short tap on the button? :-/

I have just tried my 2.6, its behaviour is similar, brief touch resumes, longer press sets current speed.

Daft thing is I never really noticed it before, I driven more than 100,000 miles in it and use the CC all the time.

Perhaps this is normal?

Will have to give it a try in my 3.2. I certainly haven't ever noticed it NOT resuming when wanted. I do normally accelerate manually though.

Sounds like the same with mine just a quick tap and longer and it will set to the new speed. I can not recall if it was the same on may old 30 elite which was not a DBW.

Out of interest I found in the manual on page 157, right hand column, some wording which could be interpreted to make this normal.

It's a bit long winded for my typing abilities.

So it appears to be normal for DBW units?  This one, any more than the briefest taps results in setting to current speed. I'd be interested in the wording from that manual...

Oh, BTW, tried this on the way home from work. A tap on the button resumes. A longer press (say 0.5 second) sets to current speed.
