Can't rotate crankshaft when fitting in new timing

Hi,
Help...!
I have problem in fixing a new timing belt for my Omega(Automatic , 2.5cc)

1) After I took out the old timing belt, I rotated the Camshaft sprockets
to markings (1,2,3 and 4).
2) Then I tried to rotate the crankshaft sproket clockwise to 6 o clock (cut -out position)
but unfortunately I'm stuck at 1 o clock position no matter how much force I put on it.
The original position was at 8 o clock position with the old timing belt.

I didn't adjust the sprockets to TDC markings prior took off
the belt could be the caused for unable to rotate further?
Also I did take out the spark plugs but it didn't help either.
What will happen if I rotate it anticlockwise?
Right now the car is empty with coolant and the engine oil. Could this be the
caused for none lubrication?

Is there any "trick" or an easy way to rotate the cranshaft to 6 o clock position?

Are you useing the cam locking kit?

You should have set TDC and locked the sprockets before removing the belt (why didn't you do this?).  

The reason why you cant move it now is likely that you have valves contacting pistons so DO NOT use any force or you WILL do serious damage (hopefully not already although I'm worried by the comment ' no matter how much force is put on it'..)

I think you could just go back the way you came to this point being very careful,  but I would prefer you wait for someone more knowledgable to advise before you touch it any further.

I think its to late for this as the belt has been removed and the cams will have moved :'(

Indeed he says he has moved the cams. Oh dear.

Need to wait for an ex-spurt to come along.  I'm sure there is a way back but I'm most concerned about damage already done. :-/

Ow shit....

Right......rotate the crank backwards to the 6 oclock position...

And lets hops that the force you have applied has not bent the valves.

As a side point...there is a special locking and timing setting kit for this engine.

I realy hope its not damaged anything.......with the cambelt off you can rotate the crank either way.

I agree with mark in this instance. I often get asked to help members in such situations, and I usually try and get the crank to 60deg BTDC, align the cams, and then set the crank to TDC and time-up...

Just don't apply excess force, if it won't move, chances are they've made contact...
