Element V canister oil filters

My new facelift barge has the replacable element type oil filter.  Now I recall from an old thread that it is possible to fit a conversion kit so screw on canister filters can be used.  As these are aprox 1/3 the cost of an element, assuming I keep the thing for longer than a year, is it worth doing?  Why did Vx change filter type and is one any better than the other in the real world?

Oh and does anyone remember the part no.  or cost and source of the conversion kit?

Just stick with the paper filters. As long as you do the thing up to 15nm NO MORE you will never have a problem :)

Indeed...

The paper element is (a) cheaper to make (b) more environmentally friendly due to lack of metal, and (c) more environmentally friendly due the fact that when you loosen the cap, the oil from the filter should flow back into the pan instead of spilling-out or staying in the filter, thus ensuring that it gets recycled with the bulk of the used oil as opposed to going in the bin with the filter canister.

That's the theory anyway, I still get oil all over the place when changing the paper element type...

But this is also why with paper element filters you should remove the old filter before draining the main pan, as some oil will flow back and you don't want that happening into the fresh oil...
