Well on looking at it now, on the right cog there is one notch and a line at the same point indictating that this is the timing set up mark. On the left hand cog there are two different notches on the cog and one has a line stamped onto the wheel itself (states exhaust).

Im kind of confused now as to wheter the timing should be at 12 oclock or pointing at each other. I have noticed however that there are two indentations on the timing back plate at the top of the engine, as if it is supposed to line up with these?????

Do you think that this is the case. Oh and I have just spoke with my car spares who have ordered me a cam locking tool to arrive friday (fiver like you said).

I have also found on remving the leads that the pots are full of oil and the leads are saturated in it. Going to give them a good clean down as well and drain as much oil out as possible before fitting the new gasket.

You need to clean the breathers out and fit a new cam cover gasket then.

Both cam sprockets will have two marks, one with E and one with I.....this stands for Exhaust and Inlet.....so, the left hand sprocket you need to be looking at the I and the right hand one the E

Well Ive removed cam cover, cleaned breathers and drained all the oil from the pots using an old syringe & needle had in the medical cabinet. Dried out the plugs and leads (sprayed with wd40). Cleaned all mating surfaces, fitted new gasket and refitted.

Removed cam sensor & found full of oil/water, so replaced with spare, cleaned out multi plug and sprayed with wd40, refitted.

Checked timing as per Marks instructions and set up to tdc and took the some photos, however Im not sure on how to attach these. I took a couple of the timing marks on the cogs and on the bottom wheel. If anyone can tell me how to attache the photos I will.

Looking through your photobucket account, the cam timing looks fine.

The other one is like:

and the bottom like:

however the photo of the bottom doesnt really give an accurate account. When you look at it from other angles it appears that it is out by about 5mm and not level with the indicator. Would this make a big difference??
