Omega 2.2 DTi - what's it like?
« on: 11 January 2008, 08:57:31 »

This is just a speculative enquiry but I have been looking through a 2003 Omega brochure and noted that the 2.2DTi is reasonably frugal (38-39 mpg combined) and I was wondering if anyone has any real-life experience of them and was willing to share their thoughts please?

Average on all sorts of roads I'm getting is about 35 mpg.

Cruising along on an A road in fifth at about 55-60 you can just nudge into 50 mpg. At 70 on the motorway (and not above, officer ;) ) you can be doing 40 mpg.

This is all based on the information display readout - not sure how accurate it is.

I quite like them, not as refined as the straight six but, more driveable.

Chain cam setup and not known for problems, can be tweaked up in power a little to.

I am getting an average of about 42MPG out of mine.  I did a deliberate fuel saving slow drive home one evening over about 40 miles and got the average up to 48MPG.  Not very realistic though or indicitave of the way I normally drive.

Smashing car though!!

Thanks all. I am just trying to gauge what they are like. I own two 3 litres and have had two 3.2s, the latter I found excessively thirsty and just wanted to know about the refinement and economy over a mix driving. The brochure states 38 - 39 mpg for the combined average which isn't too bad.

I assume that the only major differences between the 2.2 DTi Elite and 3.2 Elite are manual, no TC, no leather and no nav as standard?

Do the facelift Elites still have a sun blind? The 03 brochure implies it doesn't.

I not long ago sold my 2.2 DTI, 2002, it was a good car, i was getting about 44 to the gallon, i found her a bit flat, once up there it was great.

Elite 2.2 dti has rear blind, Bose sound, but all have grey cloth trim, unless special order, if you find leather (any colour) buy it, engine sounds fine over 50mph, never avaiable in automatic, best bet if possible go for a low mileage 2.5 bmw diesel.

Iv'e owned mine for just over 2 weeks after having driven a Rover 800 with a VM 2.5 liter Diesel for many years, the 2.2 lacks the torque of the 2.5 (although on paper the 2.2 is supposed to have more).
I think it could be that the Mig is a heavier car, i just have to seem to use a little more revs than before.
Over all i'm very happy with it, iv'e heard good reports on reliability & the economy is better than the Rover & i was very pleased with her.
My opinion so far is a good all round comfortable car with good economy & i'm very happy with my purchase :y

Indeed but with 1 under 3 year old and another on the way a loss of boot spce is not an option and or is no spare wheel. My Mrs. wouldn't let me buy an LPG MV6 a year ago.  :-[
