« on: 19 January 2008, 14:56:18 »

hello all! went to do an oil change today and found lots and lots of mayo in the filler cap and a slight trace in the dipstick! i think its safe to say my head gasket has gone and theres no way i could afford to get that done! its off to the scrappy i think! :'( :'( :'( :'(

dont do it just yet, get it to the garage, they can put their tester in the header tank, if the blue solution turns yellow its gasket failure, if its not, it may be worth saving from the scrappy. might be worth a check, ive had it done 3 times on various cars & never been charged more than a tenner!

It should be a 50/50 mix with Anti-freeze, and that should be in all year around.

If its neat water in there, thats the reason its failed!

It costs £15 for 5L of Anti-freeze that lasts for 5 years!

right mayo on the cap does not mean its HG, if its used on short runs only a considerable amount can build up.

Water loss could be the HBV.

As stated, check for leaks under the car and around the HBV area

that is exactly the same symptoms as mine (apart from i have no mayo on dipstick), its very confusing took it to the garage, they done the head gasket test and said its fine, they said it dosent seem like oil cooler but when it does go i will know because oil will be in header tank, he said just keep an eye on it, stop the car if the engine gets too hot, and shouldnt have any problems. I cant see any trace of water underneath the car, and he checked the viscosity of the oil and said it was fine!

I know this is off topic, but will this flow chart apply to a 2.0l or would it be slightly different??
