Hi Sassanach.
You know the story till I left your garage. Revs problem occurs from time to time, but not as often as it was before (once every 2-3 weeks). Now it happens when the engine is warming up and I'm driving 20-30 mph for longer time. Revs are 2500-2600 and it looks like the gear should be changed to higher, but when it tries to change it then it slips. As I said it's very rarerly and I found that when I hit the throttle (I was so angry last time) it will change the gear then. Second problem that I found on the motorway is when going up the hill, it drops the gear but when reached the top and going up, it just didnt changed it again. I had to press the brake and i went to normal again.
Thats why I assume that it's only a control problem.
After firmware update, revs problem was occuring more and more often and car was going like without power. Gears are changing on lower revs, car is accelerating from 1700-2400 revs, changing gear when on 2400-2500 (like diesel) and when doing a kickdown revs are going up to 3500-3700 only and almost instantly dropping down to 3000-3200. It's hard to accelerate. I obvously know that it's only 2.0 but it was doing better before.
I dont know much about autoboxes but I assume that each engine has different settings for same gearbox (AR25 in most of our cars) and thus different ECU. Mine is "CK" and I found that "CK" are sold as 2.0, 2.5 V6 and 2.5 TD. If so then what is the difference and is it possible that my autobox was updated with larger engine settings? 2.5 and 3.0 have much more power and torque so will go better on lower revs . Low revs, less slip and no acceleration on weak engine.
Gear change is really smother and gearbox works better, but it looks like my engine is too weak for that.
I know that there is no way to downgrade the firmware but will it help if I will do the "factory reset"?
Two solenoids (main pressure and TC lockup) were changed and after that transmission is more direct. It looks like previously one of valves was loosing pressure and when crawling and pressing throttle few times, revs were going up to 3500-4000 (20mph) ! Unfortunatelly it has even less power when accerating and the best way to dive in town is to use Sport mode. It is doing just fine and what I found it shows 999.9 MPG more often that when dring just on D. When going (without S) down from the hill and pressing brake, computer will show 70-80 MPG, and when going on flat road on S and just letting throttle it will show 999.9 for few moments.
I am quite sure that it's just a controll problem, but I want to find out if it's an ECU or valves.
If it's an ECU than what is the difference between "CKs" for 2.0, 2.5 V6 and Td and how can I find it if they have same numbers?
What is being updated with new firmware and is it designed for each engine? Gears are changed on lower revs, and is accelerating on lower revs (less slip on TC) so it looks like setting for bigger engine.
Are the solenoids the same for each engine? If there is differnt for 2.5 (torqy engine, less slip) and 2.0 (weak one, more slip) then putting 2.5 solenoid in 2.0 engine (or changing whole gearbox) will make it slowek and weaker.
I am in process of finding out if there is a "CK" ECU in 2.5 TD and 2.5 V6. I just found that it's differnt in 2.2 and it just wont go with 2.0 autobox. As our autobox guru, Sassanach, said there are new solenoids in these boxes - "improved" and more expensive. Thats why there is new differerent ECU.
