Help Needed Please.

Morning all.
A friend has told me my head gasket has gone. Im not so sure. Their is no mayo on the filler cap or dipstick and im not losing any water.
The engine still starts but sounds like a tractor and i don't think it is firing on all cylinders. It does use a lot of oil though. The engine runs and when it gets up to running temp it cuts out.
I have had a new camshaft sensor put on recently.
The eml light comes on as normal when starting and goes out as normal.
I do seem to have white smoke coming out off the oil filler cap though.
Sorry if i havn't explained myself to well.
I really love my car. Its just to good to scrap.

well he is some friend if he told you the HG is gone!! talking bull.

If your not loosing water, there is no mayo on the dip stick or filler cap then thats good! Check also there is no trace of water on the dip stick.

Sounds like you have a iffy plug, have you checked the spark plugs for water or oil?

Could also be your DIS pack is on its last legs!

Can you run a paperclip test?

There is no bubbling in the water expansion tank.
Im going to do a paper clip test and check the plug holes for water and oil and the plugs.

any clue where the oil is going?

2.0l HGs are the most robust, so not beyond the realms of possibility, but wondered how he came to that conclusion?

Hi all thanks for the advice so far.

Ok paperclip test says 0110,0130

Put new plugs in still runs the same.
Running very rich and white smoke from exhaust.
near plug as new but 2,3 plugs have oil on them.
Not good for sure.

Gut feeling tells me its not head gasket but still a big job and expensive.
What do the experts think?

White smoke and oil on plugs could be oil getting in through the valve stems...
