Facelift Cabin Heat or lack of (again)
« on: 03 February 2008, 16:07:28 »

Okay, just having spent what feels most of the weekend in the car, i HAVE to get the cabin heating working again, it was bl00dy freezing...
Had to have the blower on the windscreen, had three kids and a dog in the car but damn thing wouldn't even blow lukewarm.
I had a go at removing the hoses from the matrix pipes where they stick out the bulkhead but coudlnt get them off, pulled the bits back until they clicked, could turn the hoses on the pipes but couldnt get them off... Any tricks/clues...?
BTW, top hose into matrix is hot, bottom hose is cool, even with vacuum pipe disconnected, made no difference so i don't think its HBV, it look like a blockage in the matrix... But i need to get those hoses off.

Press in the little latch then pull the locking ring towards you.
twist pipe until its free then pull off.
I wonder if you are getting the locking ring to move right back?

I wondered that too...
I'm going to have another try wednesday as long as its not pouring hard. Ideally i'd be happy just removing the bottom hose but of course thats harder to get to

Been there over the last few months.

The heated seats do help, don't they.  But it's weird driving along and being able to see your breath inside the car, on a cold morning.

Can't help a lot more, but once I'd pulled the collars back (towards the front of the car) I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the hoses came off. Maybe you're just being too gentle?  And I think you really do need to remove them both to get the matrix flushed through.  I flushed mine a few times both ways.  But now, after a few weeks I think it needs doing again, as the heat has gone back to warm (though much better than cold!). I guess there was still some debris that is working its way around the system.

Just a thought, if you can get the hoses warm, that might help - maybe a kettle of hot water to help get the rubber a bit more pliable?

Good luck!

Mine came off TOO freely, to the extent that they just wouldn't hold securely again, (despite securing the collars), so my matrix pipes are now secured with jubilee clips, which I tightened with a stragitically placed 7mm spanner  ::)

I can confim though, while it's not yet ideal, flushing the matrix has considerably improved cabin heat. It's ALMOST acceptable...

I suspect its due to poor maintenance or another hidden issue.

Interestingly, on the V6, almost every Issue I have seen has been as a direct result of some hand fisted mechanic wrongly re-assembling items in the past !

Funny you should say that, i didn't have an oil leak until the garage replaced the head gasket..... It was their inability to clean the faces between cam cover and head of all the old sealant that caused the leak.

When refitting the pipes you have to get the couplings to pass over the bump on the metal pipe before moving the locking collar. I found that I needed to lubricate the pipe and coupling to get them to go on fully.
I suspect that you havent pushed the couplings on far enough.
