How many DTis on here?

I've been looking through the many posts in the various OOF forums and there's a distinct lack of newer diesels owned or talked about. Are they much rarer? They seem to be rarer just by dint of the number nationally for sale on Autotrader, but that could be that no one wants to sell.

There's hardly any posts about DTi problems - do they never go wrong? I know that they have timing chains so no worries about cam belts, which seems to be a regular petrol topic.

What sort of real-world MPG are you getting if you have a 2.2 DTi saloon or estate? Motorway / town / country lanes....

Hello, i have a 03 2.2dti manual saloon 54000 on the clock .Ibought it on its 2nd birthday with 20000 on the meter and i love it  :y :y, average 40mpg  or 28-30 towing  fitted cruise not long ago and will be towing with itto alton towers  during october week so hopefully mpg should be even better :)

Well, it looks like I'm getting an 01 DTi Elite, so that makes 2.

Surely there are others?

02 Elite estate here with 48K. MPG averages around 34 for the daily commute up to around the 45 mark cruising. Towing is a lottery depending on a number of variables but usually around the 25 mark.

As for cruise, I have found you get better ecconomy without it as you have more feel for how the car is driving.

02 estate here, getting minimum of 35 up to 50 mpg (don't expect to do 50 mpg again any time soon - but it can be done!!)
I suspect a lot of people will keep these cars, no cambelt is a big plus, and crazy service intervals too, mpg is pretty acceptable for the size of car, it's not what you'd call nimble but there's plenty else to like.

You're only over in Sheffield - I could remap this to cira 150bhp for £200 of your English pounds!  We're based in Hull

2002 2.2dti CD saloon, get 42mpg average (80% Motorway - 70/80 - 20% town - 20/30)

You can get much higher figures if driven with a light foot, I have got 687 miles on a tank before I chickened out, range still said 65 miles!

Not trouble free, I am still trying to cure a poor starting problem, changed leak off pipes, renewed fuel filter and seal, new glow plugs, but problem remains  :(

Typical! Planned to go out today with family and Omega has let me down, was having the starting problem for weeks and now I think the starter is F*@$ed  :-/ It has done a lot of cranking recently, this morning cranked for about 20 seconds, did not start, tried again, just a click, then noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet, coming low down on drivers side.

heading out in the wifes car and will have closer look later  :-/

I just see £££££ signs.  :-/

Sorry to hear this Alan  :( Have you had it in to VX??? Our dealer is the best around  :y

We have two DTi's. A '51 CD Estate with nearly 130k and an '03 Elite Estate with 44k  8-) No major mechanical problems apart from clutch slave cylinder failing on the CD (reversing trailer uphill  :-[ ). In fact, no mechanical components replaced at all, apart from exhaust  :)

Great cars, yes I would agree every time that a big V6 suits the car much better but it doesn't necessarily suit everyones pocket, especially considering today's fuel prices! Economy wise, yes it's possible to average 48mpg, realistically 43-45mpg and with a trailer, 30-32mpg  :y Quite good I would say! Cruise makes towing a doddle.

To replace it? What else would you have? Don't let anyone tell you Volvo's are big cars, the omega estate is a BIG car! Even then, to look at a 5 year old Merc or BMW or Audi etc, you're talking 12-15k+. The DTi's will always be a little more expensive as justifiably they will go on for longer, have longer service intervals and were more expensive to buy new.

Oh, and theres an omega DTi taxi in town which runs around now and again. At the last count it had about 320,000 miles on it  ;D Still looks like it's rolled out of the factory though!  :o

As a side note, anybody noticed the auxiliary fuel preheater, which on our CD kicks out clouds of smoke from under the bottom corner of the drivers' side bumper on really cold days??? Tis normal apparently  :-?

V6s are OK on gas, best I have managed over a decent distance was 27mpg on a fuel with a 4 at the front.

Towing 15-17 is OK as well - especially when I filled up at 41p/l
