Its nothing to do with the MID, its the EML on the rev counter.  See paperclip test in Maintenence Guides Section.

Dash off is a 10 min job, just dont be too heavy handed.

Don't switch on ign with dash off, else you'll need airbag reset

Get the dash off like TB says its a 10 mins job, i had to do this as my EML bulb had been remove to hide that the EML was on I had to replace the Lambda and air intake sensor that was it. if you take off the dash you may find as in my case they have moved the bulb to another hole thats not used no your car on mine it had been moved to the Seat belt hole so i just moved it back, you will get a code when paper clipping saying the EML bulb has been removed lol

But honest do it yourself you will be throwing good money down the drain going to VX

Yes, replace the bulb. It's very easy to take
When crankshaft sensor is knackered engine will start but will stop after 5-10 minutes and when warm it will be very hard to start it.
Camshaft sensor - only revs limited to 4000-45000 and then engine splutters.

It takes ca 30-40 to take it out. Move Blower Vents completely down as this is the best position, you can take them out.
Move steering wheel down - this will help you to get access to the firs screw.
When you can move the whole panel, try to take only left side and look behind it - you have to unplug the MID/TID display. There is a black holder on the plug - pull it and the plug will go out. Then, pull the panel and move it to the left gently.

VX genuine are made by Siemens, so you can get these from E-Bay. Don't go for "no-name quality product" as 20% don't work at all and 30% don't work as they should.

on first start up runs and revs fine only after about 60 secs does the limiter start cutting in at 4500 , still runs fine and has towed a drag racing car 240 miles in this state ??

Come on mate, tis knackered!

Here's your list of things to do IN ORDER;

1. Remove dash and replace bulb
2. Read fault codes via paperclip test in maintainance guides
3. Replace faulty sensor - either crank or cam sensor. ONLY BUY GENUINE.

The end.
