1998 2.5 CDX Estate Engine Management Light
« on: 18 February 2008, 23:29:17 »

Hi all.
First of all great forum, loads of info.
Had My Omega for about a week now, got a problem with the EML coming on (was told about it)
First thing in the morning or if it hasnt been run for a few hours Light is off, starts & drives fine, after about 5 miles the light comes on and stays on, sometimes it will come on for a few seconds and go off again but then stays on,, still drives fine, plenty of power, no misfire etc.
Any idea's??
Read also about the breather system needing cleaning out (got the left bank rocker cover gasket leak), is there any post on here that shows what to do?

Right did the "paperclip" test, getting:
16 knock sensor circuit 1,
19 Incorrect RPM crank sensor,
39 O2 sensor circuit 1,
Which cylinder bank is circuit 1, nearside (left) or drivers side (right)  :-? dont want to change the wrong ones!!!
Will do the crank sensor first anyway as she takes a few turns to get going in the morning.
Is there any way of clearing the stored fault codes without a TECH2 etc?

Change the crank sensor first as it can throw spurious codes as a side affect.

Do check the wiring to the knock sensor (no 1 is on the drivers side 1-3-5 bank) as I have seen them damaged by poor routing following cambelt changes.
