I would think someone has removed the power sounder.

Just had a new power sounder fitted to my 2002 Omega - about £125 fitted at a Vauxhall dealer. Apparently the rechargeable battery packs up after about 5 years and in my case the alarm kept going off.

I thought the car horn should still sound, the power sounder is only a battery back up device :-/

Ive never heard it go off so couldnt tell you if the horn is supposed to sound too but yeah...... that would make sense.  where is the power sounder in the engine bay?? is it infron of driver under the scuttle as in pre-facelifts? can you see it with the scuttle still on?? anyone else got same car as me?? does your horn go off?

All suggestion welcome ! (apart from spendin money lol) cheers guys

I had a faulty power sounder; `kept spontaneously going off (alarm activated or not!).....what a racket!  :'(

I didn`t need the alarm aspect of the security system (I live in a very-rural area and everyone ignores them when they sound anyway) so, I removed the power sounder which was making the ear-splitting noise; that`s the black moulded plastic cubic-item (with the NiCad batteries inside).....next to which there was the alarm-horn which I also removed; it`s just a simple car-horn thing on a metal formed bracket.....so now, if I prime the alarm and it is subsequently activated, the indicators flash but no sound.

I assume the Omega`s road-horns are a separate item completely from the alarm horn and power sounder, because the road-horns work still work perfectly.
The immobiliser is unaffected by removing the power-sounder or alarm horn and continues to protect the car as before.

Both power sounder and alarm horn are (or should-be) found under the scuttle/wiper linkage on the 'off-side' bolted to the rear-face of the O/S suspension turret.

Ooops!....`just realised you have an inline-4 cyl :-[ but, I guess the 4 and 6 should be similar situations.

On my V6 I eventually found the power-sounder and alarm horn well hidden under the scuttle and bolted to the behind (aft) face of the  driver`s side suspension turret; hidden from view until the plastic scuttle tray was unbolted and lifted.

That places it out of the view (off to the top-left side) on your photograph.

I found there`s a single (body colour) bolt near the water drain hole in the black-plastic scuttle where it joins the wing.
I undid the bolt and bent back the plastic tray and rubber seal strip to wedge/reach my hand-in to disconnect the sounder/alarm-horn....it is a tight-squeeze doing it that way (use a torch to see down-there and prepare for grazed hands)......but bending it back like that should permit you to see what`s there.
Should you need to fully expose that area, I think you`d have to remove the driver`s side wiper arm as the shaft passes through the plastic tray.
