 :question Have Blown Engine on 2002 2.6 saloon can a 2.5 engine be fitted and if you can do you have to do any mods. (The 2.5 is 2000 not sure if pre or face lift model )

One difference is 2.5 is cable control and 2.6 is fly by wire.
The cc will be wrong and i expect there may be a few electrical differences as well.
2.5 has a dis pack and i think 2.6 ic coil per plug :-/

It would probably work if you transplant all of the engine management bits from the 2.6 onto the 2.5 block and heads. (coil packs, throttle bodies, plenum, exhaust manifolds etc.)

agreed, pretty much same power plant with some anciliary changes - provided its like for like...

But like Kevin would ilke to know what engine blown means - could be head gasket diagnosis ( which it 98% wont be) which in turn may simply be an oil cooler.

In short it may still be salvagable  :-/

Yes - just thinking even if it needs new heads - might make sense to just swap the heads from the 2.5.

The Engines not salvagable had it checked by mechanic its completly burnt out will just keep my eyes open for 2.6 engine to surface thx for replys

I may be opening a can of worms here ...but mechanics have been known to be wrong, often for example diagnosing head failure when its oil cooler failure.. :-/

Is it starting or turning over making clattery noises or clunking ? Is it top or bottom end and whats its mileage?

When you say burnt out do you mean as in fire or just badley broken?? :-/

2.5 would be a bit of a mare to fit, as you'd need to fit 2.5 looms/ecu/immobilisers etc...

I would just strip the engines back to the block and heads and fit everything off the 2.6 onto the 2.5. 100cc difference probably won't upset the running too much. Be better to find a 2.6 though - or rebuild the one you've got. TBH, I'd expect a competent mechanic to give a more coherent diagnosis than "burnt out". There's not much to burn in a lump of cast iron, after all!

Could be that if it siezed it would be OK with a new set of bearing shells and a polished crank as long as the cause of the original problem was rectified.  :-/

Then again, a second hand engine would probably be more cost effective.

No, strip it back to the long engine ie heads, block crank sump etc, change the cam covers and fit the 2.6 loom, coil per plug setup etc and you are away!

whatever you do, don't go anywhere near a heathrow engine centre "exchange"  


they had their own edition of watchdog, and featured in a couple of other consumer protection programmes......  

damn glad I dodged that bullet.....    

i'd be looking for a 2.6 if i were you.....
