Spark Plugs for 2.5 V6?
« on: 24 February 2008, 21:16:58 »

Hello,
Can anyone recommend the correct 'new' model Bosch spark plugs for my Omega. The manual calls for Bosch FLR 8 LD+U however I am being told that a 'super 4' is now the correct plug - Is this really the case?

Thanks, P

No

The best source of plugs is Vx, they are excellent quality and the price is good (even better on trade club!)

I have commented before on my dislike of the quad electrode plugs as they do nothing more than extend the theoretical life of the plug but, they can also shield the spark more which is not good.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. Will call Vx tomorrow.
Kind regards,
P.

Vx plugs are made by Bosch (and carry the Bosch P/N stamped on the side), yet they are cheaper to buy through Vx than buying the Bosch-branded ones....

Older cars had the 2-electrode plugs, the newer ones have the 4-electrode plug. According to vx, 2-electrode plugs are good for 40k, 4-electrode plugs are good for 80k. But since it is not really a good idea to leave the plugs in the engine for 80k anyway, it really does not matter what you go for.... in fact Mark DTM even concluded that the 4-elctrode are potentially worse than the 2-electrode.

So in general, if your car came originally with 2-electrode, go for 2-electrode Vx plugs. If it came with 4-electrodes, go for that... either way the plugs are £2-£3 each from Vx.

Buying them is easy.....trying to install the buggers is where the fun starts. I got 6 VX plugs and they're still sitting in the garage.
SOOOOOOOOO many things need moving out of the way before you can get at the holes...I gave up and they'll await the next full service by my mechanic bods.

Thanks for the comments guys,
The next thing I will be looking for is THE guide to replacing the plugs AND cleaning the breather system for the first time in about 100,000Miles!. My rocker cover gaskets are shagged and now I know what caused it, thanks to this great forum.
Keep up the great work! :y

Thanks again and kind regards,
