Problems Running on Petrol.
« on: 12 February 2008, 20:00:50 »

I think the original suject line was mis-leading.

Hi Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to solve a problem I have with my Auto 2.0 16Ver 1994:

I think there may be air entering the combustion system somewhere but I'm blowed (No pun intended) if I can find it.  On gas the car runs ok, very slight rough tickover but it's a mixer system and I can live with that. The problems start with running on petrol though. Its usually the other way round...  However cold running is a nightmare, keeps stalling until warm and then sometimes when warm too.

When warm and standing it seems to run fine mostly, until it's in drive, while it still runs it starts to hunt noticeably with the car rocking rhythmicly slow, occasionally the revs will drop and the EM kicks in with a rush causing a surge.  I've done the breathers and rocker cover gasket all are now clear. I've even installed a brand new ICV. I'm considering opening the throttle butterfly slightly to try and aleviate some of it.  I'd be very gateful for any suggestions or remedies.

Thanks in anticipation.

Have a look at your injector wiring, it is particularly brittle and crap on my omega.  It's the same model omega as yours and I also run a mixer system.  I had this problem not long ago, the car was missing on petrol but ran great with gas.  It should be fairly obvious if you have a wire that is split.  All you'll need to do is solder it.  Worth a look.

Hi Thanks for all your suggestions, EGR erm... no thats the first thing I'll look at though.  I've traced all the injector wiring through and soldered in the Injection modulator which sits nicely in the relay box. I've repaired the fault codes recently, with a new Cam sensor the EML light has stayed off since.

The car Failed MOT though on the front wishbones which of which I did one today.  Next tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Stripped inlet manifold, evidence of bodging apparent by previous owner or garage.  Wrong stud inserted at back and too short so no nut there, and manifold came off very easily with most nuts little more than finger tight, the gasket came away in peices with a huge gap in no. 1 intake section. Blanked off EGR and it seems to be ok now on Gas and Petrol. Thanks for your input. :)
