Help please - RAC broke my dash lights !
« on: 07 February 2008, 16:53:27 »

I've got a bloke out side trying to find wha he's broke...

On the climate control there every thing works but there is no back lighting on any thing bar the fan speed, every thing worked before he started fitting the tracker stuff...

Any ideas on where to look for a loose plug etc etc as he's getting no where quick...

Have you turned the climate panel on, as there is no  lights until you do ;)

Theres a plug to the left (as you look at the panel) which has a clip to lock it in place.

Well the RAC have given up...

It started with just the dash lights been out and now the radio and the climate control wont power up, there are no fuses blown or obvious loose plugs.

any way they will have the local vauxhall dealers pick it up tomorrow, worst bit is that I have to use the bloody mondeo to go to work now :(

I hope that the RAC will be paying for the amount when it goes into the dealers? I see no reason why you should have to pay for there mistake  :y

Make sure its the RAC that pay for the repair and NOT YOU, as they were working before they touched it. If everything was in perfect working order before any professional person touched it then they are responsible for putting it right even if they have to pass the repair onto someone else. THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR!!!!!!!

Edit: someone replied the same as me but quicker.

Dont worry, already got there customer service to agree its there problem, also he did a full check of the car before starting which he marke it all as working.

Got a copy of his job sheet where he states it was working when he started, the dash lights where found to be defective after refitting the glove box / radio , and that the climate control packed in after he tried to fix the lights...

banged to rights I do beleve

Only thing that worry's me is if the costs of the fix are "large" will the RAC/Norwitch union (as the damage was done whilst working for the insurance company) could they write the car off ?

( PS, not sure on protocol of this forum, but would it be worth for a mod/admin to merge this thread and the one in the general chat section ? )

No they may try the we'll write it off cost it is cheaper but that is only 'cos it is cheaper for them.  They must put you can into the position you were in before that tw*t got to your car.

If they start trying to avoid things, suggest you'll involve a jounalist.  Can't see the RAC would like that sort of publicity
