Engine head 2.0 ver 2.2 (petrol)
« on: 29 February 2008, 15:41:44 »

Are heads used for 2.0 similar to 2.2? I know that camshaft is different, but apart from that, they might be the same. Only thing that I could think about is valve dimension, but don’t think that 200 ccm make a big difference (50ccm on each cylinder).
2.2 head is rare and expensive (£160 from scrapyard!!) so I could buy 2.0 one and replace camshafts.
Who can advice if these are the same

When I took off Tunnie's Dad's 2.2 head, it said 2.0/2.2 stamped on it.

I suspect they are the same - not sure about squish area etc though - compression maybe slightly altered?

Or does the 2.2 just have longer bores, in which case all will be well?

2.2 has longer bore (stroke). Cylinder dimension is 100% the same.
Everything should fit (apart from camshaft) but what about valves? Do they have the same dimension?

X20XEV
Bore (mm) - 86
Stroke (mm) – 86

Z(Y)22XE
Bore (mm) - 86
Stroke (mm) - 94.6

All valves are the same size from 1.8 though to 3.0!

I suspect its the same head.......you would like to think that the extra squish area required would be forged into the pistons.

The worst that could happen is the compression ratio is raised slightly but, the 2.2 is a lower compression than the 2.0 anyway!
