How do you know you have ESP?
« on: 05 March 2008, 21:55:27 »

How can you tell if your car has ESP. I've seen loads of facelifts on ebay that say they have ESP and I'm wondering if my Elite has it.

Asked VX and they said they don't know since it doesn't show up on their EPC when they type my reg in.

Ah but when you check the Omega EPC there's a part for a yaw sensor, so I guess there is some thats fitted. Where would the yaw sensor be fitted, so I can go searching?

Looks to be 2.6/3.2 as it sits on the can bus, cant find the location for the sensor.

But, there is a basic ESP setup in the standard 4 way ABS unit....its crude though.

You walk up to it on a cold morning and it is sitting there idling, nice and warm?  ::)

My manual talks about ESP being an option separate to traction control.

It is, but you could argue ABS is an electronic stability system.  Not a proper one of course...

Both my mercs had a button on the dash marked ESP.....if you pressed it a big warning triangle light came on......warning....you had turned off TC/ABS and another little device that determined if you were braking hard enough....if it thought not....it would brake for you.

Never seen an Omega with an ESP button  :-/

Interestingly i managed to crash one of my mercs........coz it took over the braking for me.......it just went for a slide into the rear of BMW convertible  ;D

Wierd sensation when the brake pedal just drops to the floor......when it takes over braking........

Tho i did considerable damage to my merc (still reckon i would have stopped in time under my control) the funny part was ...... the roll bars went off on the BMW.......punching two holes through his rag top  ;D ;D

I have lovely dreams about mercs and bmw's crashing into each other.

Just my sick and twisted mind I suppose.
