Changing Doors (Is it difficult)
« on: 07 March 2008, 20:17:22 »

Hi guys,

Anyone got any feedback on how tricky it would be to replace a couple of doors.

I have the dreaded rusting along top of drivers door and offside rear door. also a small rust patch developing along bottom of drivers door.
Looks like an attempt has been made to repair these. (Not very well I must say).

So I'm thinking get a couple of matching doors and "Chuck em On". Bet it's not that easy though eh!

Car is a 99 3.0i Elite.    Any help or knowledge greatly appriciated.

Regards, Big Al

Just make sure you have a jack and a couple of large blocks of wood to support it when you line up the holes.  The front doors are quite heavy and i found it to be much easier with a second pair of hands and a supporting jack.

Cheers

Probably best to disconnect the battery to avoid upsetting the airbag system.

I'm about to do this also. Got a new drivers door sitting.
Am I right in thinking you need to treat the door airbag as with the seat removal, disconnect the battery for 15-20 mins before attempting?

There's no airbag in the door but there could be a sensor so I would disconnect the battery :y

Thanks for the replies everyone. Will be cautious about air bag when I come to do it.

Yes, There is a sensor in the door , It tells the side airbag that someone has justed crashed into the side of you
