Headlight conversion to Xenon, is it possible?
« on: 08 March 2008, 12:50:52 »

Hi all,

The headlights on an Omega I am interested in buying are the early type and have gone all yellow. Can I staight swap them for the later Xenon type?

Thanks.

Swapping for HIDs is not straightforward, and leglly must be fitted with a self levelling system and a washing system.

Fitting projector headlights is possible and a worthwhile upgrade - its a plug and play job :)

Sorry what are projector headlights?

I had an MV6 1998 and it had Xenons, the one I'm looking at is 1995 were there just the two versions?

Thanks

3 headlights fitted to prefacelift Omega:

Old reflector types fitted to all pre 1998 cars. Poor.
HIDs (Xenons) fitted to 1998 and 1999  MV6 and Elites. Very Good
Projectors fitted to all other 1998/1999 Omegas. Pretty good.

Projectors and HIDs have the clear lens, and what looks like a golfball bulb.  Projectors are an easy swap from Ribbed reflector type.

HIDs are a much more involved retrofit, even more complex to do so legally.

One last question, if I am buying some second hand headlights and they both have the golf balls in them, how do I identify which are which?

Thanks

HIDs have ballest, Projectors do not.

I have HID's and Projectors on the Elite/2.2

With decent bulbs the projectors (when clean) are a quite good! not far off HID
