Alarm
« on: 07 March 2008, 19:29:01 »

Hiya peeps, well i picked up my CDX (200 facelift model) last night and had a very comfortable cruise back home, all seemed well until tonight when for some reason the Alarm kicked off, i went to disable it sounding but even though nothing was wrong around the car i could not get it to shut off with the remote, the doors unlocked and even the engine started when i put in the key,but it still carried on sounding, any ideas as to what may have happened (we are VERY rural here) and why it would not dissarm when unlocked, I have left it open (Unlocked) at the moment untill the morning and daylight, is it possible to lock via the key so the alarm does not activate.

Sounds like the power sounder batteries are low, which means you need to disconnect it.
I believe it lives under the scuttle on the drivers side. IIRC.

Sounds like the power sounder dead. Plenty of info on here about his. Best option is to disconnect it. It's under the plastic scuttle panel, behind the driver's side front suspension pillar.

.. and you can lock it in the meanwhile by opening the driver's side rear door, reaching in and pressing the driver's door lock and then shutting the rear door.

Hiya!
Here`s a forum thread with full details about the Power Sounder fault; which sounds like your problem also.

ok,  when i can figure out where this scuttle location is, and i remove the unit, will the alarm still operate ok without it when locking the car with the fob ,or does removing the unit render the alarm useless, & or i have a 1995 Omega CDX as well, can i interchange the units in question.

If you remove the Power Sounder and leave the Alarm Horn; the alarm should still work ok as before; only the Power Sounder`s protection against battery tampering will be absent.

There might be insurance implications if the factory fitted alarm had been tampered-with should a claim be made.

I think you could swap between cars as the Power sounder is a shared/common Vx item.

aha cool, thanks for that, I will have a look at it in the morning with daylight, can i just confirm though that the unit on my car is under the passenger wiper motor and how easy is it to get to, reason i am asking is that i suffer from rhumatiod arthritis , i think it is just the sounder by this and other threads as the car horn is not sounding and only the hazards are flashing not the headlights.

P.S side note, still have very fond memories of walking my dog round bala lake back in the late 80s :).

Thanks for all help and advise.

The scuttle is in fact a black plastic tray with a rubber trim edge at the front. The scuttle is pierced for the wiper arm shafts and attached to the inner wing at the driver`s side by one machine screw.

It would be best to detach the driver`s side wiper arm to permit you to raise the plastic scuttle tray high enough to get your hands in to the Power Sounder`s location on the aft face of the O/S/F suspension turret.

Before beginning work: You`ll need to pay attention to the Battery-disconnection proceedure outlined within the previous thread-link at the top of this thread.

Good luck with the job....let us know how you get along with it roadhoguk  :y

 >:(   No go so far, joys of hands not able to co-operate to much degree in awkward spaces  >:( .

A bit cheeky for a newbie but is there anyone near Eardisley (hereford) that knows how to carry out this proceedure who would be willing to lend a hand (cause mine are useless  ;D ) , we can cover Petrol / Diesel and supply tea / coffee and food. After buying the car we are a bit to skint to afford the vx solution of replace and fit.

....Bit far for me to come, I`m sorry to say; but, please don`t feel the need to apologise for your disability`s limitations roadhoguk.....it`s a tricky/fiddly place to get-to, even with unaffected hands.  :y

There may be a kind forum-member close(r)-bye whom can offer some help.....
I must say though, that the person whom sold you the car MUST have known about this fault (for it occurred so quickly following your purchase); `bit naughty is that!
Hope you get it sorted soon.  ;)
