Did you check for codes with the engine running? Were they the same if you did?

I bought one recently £26+vat   is it normal to have to remove p/steering pump to get access to fit, or is there an easier method.

Assuming you're talking about your 2.2, you can access it from the
top by removing the exhaust heatshield and the oil dipstick tube.
You'll find it about 2" forward of the dipstick tube. It's still a bit
tight, so you will need a universal joint or flexible drive for your
1/4" drive socket.

Don't forget to plug the dipstick tube hole with something before
you start removing the sensor, or Murphy's Law states that the
bolt will drop down the hole and into the crankcase.  :)

Well come to fit the crank sensor today, had 2 problems, first one was i couldn't get the trolley jack under because i had parked to close to kerb!,second,i asked for an oval type plug fitting, opened the box and it's the square!,my fault should have checked, took it back and was told "looks like it's been boxed wrong" and "oh by the way oval is another £15+vat,not happy as i asked for the oval in the first place...lol
