Dashboard reflection in screen!!!!
« on: 06 March 2008, 15:32:35 »

Hi Guys
Does anyone know of any tricks to get rid of the bloody dash reflection on sunny days in the wind screen. It does my flippin noodle in !!! Is it just me or does everyone else just put up with it? I don't use those poxy silicon cleaners so the surface is as dull as I can get.
Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated
John

bloody hell I'll see even less then, unless you mean punch the windscreen out and use the sunglasses to stop the wind blast!

Apart from wishing for overcast days the only other thing that pee's me off about the car is no heated front screen, but hey stick it in sport mode, turn the tractor control off and it don't arf make you grin!

wonder if a dash repair man would have something?

I used to have the same problem in an old Honda and cured it by taping some black velvet to the top of the dashboard. Unsightly, sort of, but it worked wonders.

Some matt tape or plastic sheet might be better, but it's still going to look ugly.

Yes I get problems with my Omega but tend to filter it out mentally as much as I can.

Try cleaning the dashboard with a product that leaves it with a mat finish?

Funny, I used to have the same problem with my very first Omega (96 estate) but all my others have never bothered me ::)

My Mum test drove a new Corsa that had a hideous silver bit of trim just under the windscreen. The reflection was a terrible distraction. Very nearly didn't buy the car until the dealer discovered that in another trim level the trim is a dark colour.

My approach has been as follows:

1) Use a simple window cleaner on the inside (i.e. Mr Muscle) rather than a car glass polish

2) Clean the dash with 1001 carpet cleaning solution, it leaves it clean but leaves no residue behind so gets it back to its original mattish look.

It gets wiped over with a clean cloth, so the plastics duller than a dull thing in the dark dull place.

Does anyone know if it is illegal to have the front screen tinted. Just a 5% tint might cut enough light to stop it. Are the newer shape Omega's dash better?

Thanks Mark I'll give those products a go

http://www.ukmotorists.com/tinted%20windows.htm

This may help.

I can see the reasoning for night driving, but considering that
there is no law regarding the Sunglasses that you wear during
day, (usually much higher tinted than windows), I'm more inclined
to thinking that reducing the effectiveness of facial recognition
software, used on the images supplied by CCTV and Motorway
cameras, is of more than a passing interest to the government
and the security services.  :)  ;)

The thing is, its not so much the dash, its the screens ability to reflect the dash image back at you...

Tinting the screen won't help - you want maximum light coming through from the outside.

I can't decide if leaving the screen grimy on the inside would help or hinder :-/

How about some black furry self-adhesive stuff that sports shops used to sell to wrap around handles of tennis/table tennis bats. Try draping a dark towel on top of the dash first, to see if the furry stuff might help.
