Why is this sticker here?
« on: 13 March 2008, 09:50:56 »

There's a mysterious sticker on the clear cover over my dials.  You can see it in the first picture, just inside the top left (10:30) of the steering wheel rim.

It says: 'this car may be fitted with options above and beyond the standard specification'.  :-?

Someone suggested it might be an ex plod motor?

There are no other external signs that I'm aware of and the spec seems standard MV6...however I do suspect that the springs may be firmer than standard.  I've fitted new Vx MV6 shocks but the ride is still awful and feels under damped.

Is there likely to be anything on the springs that could identify whether they are standard or not?

You can see the sticker in the picture below.  The other pics show the car in standard MV6 trim (I think?)

If it's ex-plod, your speedo will me marked at 1 or 2 mph intervals rather than 5mph, and it would have a sticker reading something on the lines of "calibrated on *** by *** nottingham."

ex demo perhaps?

Anything in the V5 to indicate civil service/diplomatic or some-such use?

My friend was a Kent Fire and Rescue Service-senior officer and as company-car he ran a normal looking 3 litre Jag. but fitted with home-office radio, 'hidden' blues/twos & wailers and upgraded brakes....that had a sticker advising of 'changes'.  ;)

Sounds like an @rse-covering sticker fitted by a dealer similar to the mileage stickers you see on used cars. Probably stating that there may be optional extras on the car that you might need to disclose to your insurance company but don't rely on us to point them out to you.

Probably because VX hadn't printed the updated manual for it in time so there may be something not covered in it. VX covering their rears I expect.

I can see that sticker makes you unhappy, so i'd like to offer to take the entire car off your hands to ease your stress

Very, very considerate of you Danny, however I was fortunate enough to be able to remove it some time ago to ease my woes :P (check the date on the display in original picture).

I'm just trying to get to the bottom of why the ride isn't very refined after replacing shocks and thought it might be uprated springs..... but I guess it wasn't a plod car then.  Quite happy about that actually!

if it had been, someone would have gone to great lengths to make it look original, auto box, correct seats, alu trim, correct 17" alloys and correct mv6 front bumper ;)

Cars not by any chance one of Vauxhall's ex Millbrook test vehicles ? Reason I say that is the Mets driving school at one time had a few (used on skidpan) that Vauxhall donated that were not entirely standard and had a similar proviso. Very intriguing  :-?

If it were any kind of "working car" I can't see them having specced that sports leather. :-* Very nice.

Me neither. Can't stand the ruddy things.  ;)

I can't drive a car with the sunroof open due to buffeting, don't need to because of air con, and they only end up leaking, jamming or rusting.

If you want wind in the hair, get a car without a roof.  :y

The sticker's been removed and I've no other close up pics unfortunately.

This one will remain a mystery I think.   :-/
