Just read Ghondies post on his new CD & on reading replies wondered that if a new model, ie 2.5CD came with a higher spec than standard, would that dictate it was bought new by a private buyer as appose to a fleet purchase for area sales manager, director, rep, etc.? I'm working on the premise that if one grade of employee got one grade of car, so on & so forth then one would get a CD & next up would get a CDX or Elite, so a car specced somewhere in between must have been a private purchase from new?

It may not have been specified with any extras, but still come with them - unrelated to whether fleet or private.  We've had a couple of lease cars with higher than standard spec.

As you know, cars aren't often built to order. Vauxhall will build, for example, a batch of CDs with a sunroof for when customers spec that.  A new customer ordering a std CD could be advised that non currently available, but a e/s/r version available no extra cost (with Vx usually swallowing the cost)....

I did'nt know that but see what you mean. Out of interest mines got no sunroof, but has A/C.

the thinking behind many car makers was that if you had A/C why would you need a sunroof? !!!!!! The French were very obvious with this thinking,.......................but then they have allways been a little odd

Sunroofs are only there to bake your head on sunny days and leak on rainy days.

Many cars i've owned have had sunroofs fitted but i've hardly ever used them. I do'ntmind them but like to be able to slide the inner cover across when not in use, some cheaper cars do'nt have any means of shutting the light out.
   Besides, no sunroof = easier polishing!!!

My car is only a humble GLS but its got leccy sunroof, seats (up & down adj), CD 500,alloys,& remote total closure,  is this normal?

Not sure Phil but a mate is thinking about buying a 2ltr prefacelift manual but likes top spec motors. I've told him from what i can see the late gls's are almost as well specced as CD models ie foglamps etc which earlier lower specced models did'nt have. Also alloys & other bits.
    Seems like a bit of a minefield!

company I used to work for gave you a certain pence per mile rating when choosing a car, you could then add extras to that up to a certain limit or when you hit the ppm, whichever came sooner ... plus if you really wanted extras past that you could pay for them out of your own pocket - so it's entirely possible for fleet cars to have been upgraded ... plus items like leather seats could have been retro-fitted ...
