Hi Guys,

Can an Omega be driven safely with a problematic Oil Cooler??

Hi,
If its spewing oil into the engine cooling system, or for that matter water into the oil, answer is a no no. Unless that is if you are driving it to the scrapyard !!

You will end up with the most unholy mess to try and clean out of the cooling system. Difficult and expensive if it chokes the rad.

Dont risk it mate it does more damage.

As suggested, not worth the effort.  Not only does it clog rads etc, but also softens rubber hoses and seals, so they tend to faiil soon after.

Although i do agree that if you can get away without using the car then dont, but i used my omega with a busted oil cooler for about 2 weeks and my car is o.k, this might have been more luck than judgement but if i didnt have the car i couldnt work so i didnt have a choice. Good luck too if your gunna replace it yourself too mine was a pain in the ass

Thing is, it depends how long it was leaking for before it was noticed?

Project TB-1 (2.5 CD for those not around 18months ago) had a failed cooler, no idea how long it had been failed for, but I had to change virtually every hose and the waterpump, as it had obviously done a few journeys in that state...

hi..i`ve just the oil cooler replaced on mine [£230inc vat]
it had run for around 1,000 miles before i noticed. garage said was a right pain to flush out but should be ok so prob wouldnt rcommend goin any great distance in it

Oil in coolant.

You 2.0l doesn't have one, so 1 less thing to worry about...

i personally woudnt drive a omega with with a blown oil cooler any were mate will loads of damage not apparnt straight away !! oil causes hoses to rot slowy not good on motorway at 70 mph !!
