I changed my crank sensor 10 days ago but i didn't notice any difference, the starting was still quite rough/lumpy. I've just been and done a paperclip test to see if the code 19 had gone but it's still showing 19. It's done in excess of 50 starts so i'm at a loss as to whats wrong........

Anyone got any ideas ?

When the Crank Sensor on Mrs' car was knackered it wouldn't start, it would turn over but wouldn't fire up.

19 is a code that normally disappears pretty much straight away after its fixed  :-/

i fitted a new genuine crank sensor in jan. it started playing up last week,the only advice i could offer would be to try and beg,steal,borrow another sensor from somewhere and try it,to at least help with elimination . btw this is assuming engine is running while checking fault codes ?

Is there any way to test the original crank sensor ?

 Although all the signs pointed to crank sensor none of the symptoms have been cured, I'm still getting code 19 and it's still not starting smoothly but it drives smooth enough so i'm not convinced that the crank sensor was the fault in the first place even though i was getting code 19. No other codes are coming up.

I've done the paperclip test with the engine running.

i dont think there would be any way of testing it at home.my original one made the car difficult to start and the eml kept flashing up,did the paperclip test,got code 19.last week the car started to become slightly difficult to start and would not idle.i tried all the known things which would cause idling problems (including changing icv) and did paperclip test again and was very surprised to find code 19 again.i put the original crank sensor back on this morning and the car has started running fine.so it would appear that 2 faulty sensors wont always give the same symptoms and that a new sensor could be a duff one.it may be worth getting one from a scrappy just to see if your symptoms change by putting a different one on the car,before you try for a refund or buy another new one.

If it was a genuine sensor then the stealers should look at it under there parts warrenty :-/

I need to find out if it is the crank sensor before i start paying Vauxhall labour prices. The new sensor came from LMF Vauxhall Parts, it's a pattern part but is identical to the genuine Vauxhall one that came out so i'll have a chat with them in the morning.

Cant use the Vx warrenty then(which includes labour )

I spoke to LMF Vauxhall Parts today, the people who supplied the sensor and they are sending another crank sensor to try, hope that works  :-/

Brand new crank sensor fitted on 16 March has now failed completely

I have been getting some very poor quality items from LMF just recently so they have been added to my steer clear list!

the sensors dont last long because the exhaust manifold heats em up

i encased my sensor wire in copex tubing and filled that up with fire cement and then silicon sealant and covered it in tin foil to stop the heat eating it away!
