Funny noise.
« on: 29 March 2008, 15:28:46 »

Well i got a funny noise coming from my car i have been told that it could be an exhaust dilusion fan, the noise comes from the passenger side behind the front bumper. What is it, what do they look like, what do they do, how easy are they to change?
Thanks Liam

You will be lucky to find one with good noise-free bearings. The secondary air injection system is not needed for MoT etc and was deleted on later cars so you can disconnect it. Ideally you should also plug the air hose at the vacuum operated valve by the radiator.

When you say later cars, how late are we talking?

I have a 2000 v6

I removed the whole setup, pump, valve assembly behind the radiator, taped up the connector and sealed the vacuum pipe.

Gives loads of extra space for belt changes and must lower the weight to some extent.
