Hanley is just off the A500 , which is directly off the M6 Jct 15
You have to come off for the A53 , directions to Festival Park then just follow the signs.

Wetherspoons is to the left of Percy Street in the centre of hanley. The food is good , you go upstairs so its sealed off from the pub and the riffraf doley drinkers.

Pubs are for drinkers. Resturants are for eating. Food is ruining all pubs  >:(

Not doubting after my stay there last year ;)

But just a general rant that pubs should be pubs, and food should be sold in resturants.

Well, i think they should rename pubs that serve food to madhouse (kids and the like) , and pubs should be hardcore pubs , where its just about the beer!

I couldn't agree more!

If you are going out for a few drinks why should you have to put up with kids running around and the smell of steak and chips?

If food is served it should be in a totally seperate room from the bar. There are places where this is the case and that's where I take my two boys too if we go out for  a meal.

I'll get me coat!

Shouldn't be allowed in the same building!  Diners stare at drinkers like they shouldn't be allowed to have a drink at the bar.

Hmm. Not sure I agree. All the pubs round here have excellent food, so much so that I'm not sure when I last went to a restaurant In fact, I can't name more than a couple of restaurants that I've been to round here. All restaurants have sh!te beer without exception - a choice of several different brands of recycled, carbonated p33. Yes, I can get a lovely bottle of wine  (for 20-30 quid :o) but what use is that when only 1 of you is drinking?

So, I can have good food and no beer :(, or good food and good beer :D

SWMBO's happy because there's no cooking and no washing up, I'm happy because she's so happy she normally offers to drive home even though she did drive my Westfield into a ditch on one such occasion  :'(.

One pub near here has even had the catering side taken over by an Indian restaurant. So you can get bladdered on the real ale (which is very good) and then saunter into the next room for a Madras when the time feels right :y

My problem is when pubs start selling food, and the people going for a social drink and natter are treated as outcasts.  For those that know the area, The Green Man near Silverstone on the A43 is a prime example - they keep extending, but the 'drinking area' is a small area that is basically the entrance.

Most modern pubs are similar - 80% of space set over for food and kids play areas, leaving a small area for drinkers. Invariably, the drinkers are made to feel unwelcome with slow service (drinks for food orders seem to take priority etc).

:(No proper pubs around any more. For once i'm glad i'm getting on a bit. I remember when you could smell the pub before you got there. All you need is a bar, jukebox, pool table & dartboard 7 a few regulars. It's all pine, pot plants & ball parks now. You can go for a good Ruby after, & take the kids out somewhere else during the day.
Anyway, sorry to be a grumpy old break but some of you must remember!!! ;D ;D

I do know what you mean. The best balance is to have a bar and a separate dining room as my favourite village pub around here does. Bar is full of locals who are friendly and quite often some live music, quiz, games, banter, etc. People who want to sit and have a quiet meal do so in the dining room.

There's a pub just like that in Alton. Probably hasn't changed much since it was built in 17something and certainly hasn't changed one bit since the 60's apart from in air quality. Good guest ales too [smiley=beer.gif]

It's the manufactured, modern chain pubs I hate. Fortuanately there are still plenty of family run free house type places around here.

Knowing where the Green Man is (the middle of nowhere) I suspect if it didn't do the food it would have shut long ago........they need the food to draw the people to make a profit and stay alive.

We are lucky where I am, there are still some real pubs and those that do food have seperate areas for it.
