auto box problem
« on: 06 April 2008, 23:28:21 »

hi i am having problems with my ar35 box. had no problems since i have had the car but it came up on the display to check gearbox when i went to start it the other morning. i started the vehicle and after a minute or two it went out. i drove to work all ok. started again a few hours later no warning drove fine, as i started the car to come home in the evening it came on again, as i drove down the road it went out again and the box worked fine. tried it the next day warning back on. has anyone got any ideas as being in spain its like talking to a wall trying to get any answers out of the spanish mechanics.
many thanks
adi :( :(

First thing to do, and the easiest by far .. check the fluid level !!

Especially as its intermittent and more common when cold, sounds like it might be a tad low.

If the level is OK then we go to the next step ......

I suppose you need to try to talk to the car to get what fault codes you can. Cheapo Tech II & a lap-top I would think is the min you require.

Is it coming on before you put in gear? That would imply a electrical issue (solenoids, selector switch etc).

If its once your moving, my initial reaction would be mechanical/hydraulic - ignore this and you'll be buying a new box (or more likely, a new car)

Need to get the gearbox codes read. Note, many generic scanners cannot read gearbox ecu.

dunno if this is any help but worth a try.

i have a facelift model and mine used to do this if i turned the engine off when it was in neutral or drive. so when i started it up again it would take a little longer to start and "check gearbox" light was on. next time it does this:
 put in park,
 switch engine off, remove key,
 restart,
and hopefully this will clear it. :)
