It's not too difficult to replace the bracket that Andy posted a picture of, you need to drill out five, from memory, spot welds. At least one is hidden under a sealing strip.

I found 3/16 or thereabouts pop rivets adequate for it's refitting, I did not want the paint destruction and subsequent corrosion of welding.
It's lasted a year so far with signs of failure.

Removing the door is essential, as is the front window guide, needs to be done with power on to move glass.

Don't unplug the door with the battery connected in case of airbag trouble.

Somewhere I have some pictures taken during the process, if anyone wants them, let me have your email address.

Hi mike, if you email me those pictures that would be great. my address is paulconnaghton@hotmail.com. many thanks in advance

Beforegoing to that extent I'd try the repair kit first.

OK well my passenger door strap snapped clean of as yours has.

well i fixed it today.
how.......

Marky mark sent me a metal plate which after removing the door card i used to fix the door strap gubbing to as i tightened the bolts back up it crimmped the damaged metal between the plate and the door strap gubbings attachement points.

Works a treat. after a good greasing. ;D
well chuffed another jobs of the list!!!

oh and this was all done with the door fitted too. and i did no drilling ether.

Shame your not closer i would have fixed it for you. :)

I thought you needed a pair of the plates Marie - inside the door cavity and out (visible from the front)?

i thought  this but on closer inspection it works a treat might get it welded at some point to make it stronger.

So you installed it on the outside (front of car) then, rather than inside the door cavity?   I've not taken mine apart yet so not sure exactly how it works.

nope it in the door cavity. but between the outside of the door and the bent metal. its difficult to explain imagin from left to right if on the passenger side.
first you have the door strap gubbings then the bent metal then the metal plate this is inside the door then put the screws/bolts through the metal plate into the door strap gubbings and tighten. as you tighten th screws up it pulls every thing together and flattens the bent metal back into place. i would tighten them bit by bit to ensure it tightens square in the hole.

Ensure you grease the gubbings well, then connect the door strap to the car and then i workwed the door for a bit.

job was a gooden for me. i might when i get chance get the metal plate welded it the gap. just going to see how it goes from here.
